    Completed Peterson Twain Collection

It's a great collection. I have the rusticated pair in my own collection - although, in contrast to the OP, I much prefer the poker shape (which in this case is meant to be reminiscent of a corncob a la Huck Finn). Mike

    Suspenders any one use em

In the UK they are called 'braces' - same thing though. I've worn them for three or four years now. Being honest, it's because my shape has changed on getting older - with my waist sort of disappearing, a belt didn't seem so efficient any more. The braces work just fine. Mike

    They Shall Not Grow Old

Peter Jackson's film was shown here in the UK on television on Remembrance Day (Nov 11th). It's widely available here now on DVD. Jesse's critique nailed it. The film is profoundly moving and respectful. It is a very worthy tribute on this centenary. Mike

A very happy and blessed Christmas to all of you. Mike

Alright, Serious Question of The Day: Do You Add Anything to your Coffee?

99% of the time I drink it black without sugar. I am kind of a purist with regard to my coffee. However, the other 1% of the time is on those occasions when I arrive home cold and wet and really need an inner-warmer. My warmer of choice lately is a slug in my coffee of Jack Daniels Tennessee...

    Charatan introduces Dunhill blends

I bought three tins of the new 'No 10' mixture which is a copy/clone of London Mixture. It was delivered yesterday. I've had two bowls of it - not bad as a copy although, not having JimInk's flavour memory, I really would need to pop a tin of London Mixture and compare side by side. The one...

Wonderful! I would buy a copy! Mike

    With fingers crossed

What a beautiful pipe! Pipes are made to be smoked, not locked up in a case - and I can think of few better to use it as the good Lord (and the pipe maker) intended! Mike

    George H. W. Bush, Gone at 94

Speaking as a Brit, I always liked the man. There was a basic decency about him I think - sadly not always a common trait among our political masters. Condolences to his family at this time of both loss and pride. Mike

The (Un)Official Secret Santa 2018 Thread!

Hi all My Secret Santa came down the chimney last night! As you can see, he left me some Bengal Slices (always appreciated) and some SG Balkan Flake (which I have never tried before). The Balkan Flake will be popped on Christmas Day. Santa also brought me a zippo pipe lighter - an...

    Charatan Dunhill Replacements

Thanks for this - I have just signed up! However, I am not sure my own favourite (London Mixture) is being covered. We will see. Mike

The (Un)Official Secret Santa 2018 Thread!

My package is off too! Isn't it funny how, no matter how tightly you wrap it, that Capt Black grape smell still seems to waft over everything? Mike

    Peterson Fisherman

Gosh, this is an old thread! The Fisherman eventually turned into a seven day set of X105 shapes (I actually have eight of them now). The pipe here is an old friend. Mike

    Hitler & Penzance

"Yeah, I wonder which actual movie is the source." It's called 'Downfall' and it is a remarkable film from 2004 which won numerous awards. It details the last ten days in the bunker before the death of Hitler and stars Bruno Ganz. I don't speak German so I personally can't tell, but I read once...

    Percolator Coffee

Mike - years ago I was in Jordan and we were travelling between Amman and Petra. We stopped about half-way for coffee and a break. The waiter brought this incredibly fragrant coffee and I expressed interest in it. To the Arab mind I was honouring their establishment so, before I knew it, I was...

    Percolator Coffee

This might surprise some people but the American style percolator is almost unknown here in the UK where the filter machine or French press rule supreme. For myself I have a 15 year old electric filter machine which has a clock and timer on it. Before I go to bed I set it up and, voila!, a pot...

Now where did I put those two pouches of Captain Black Grape?

    Anyone know Clan Tobacco

Just about any pipe smoker in the UK will be familiar with Clan. It is quite unique and I am not sure there is anything really like it. It does smell very nice, both out of the pouch and out of the pipe. However, it is just about the hottest smoke known to man! It is cut in quite a thin shag...

    Overwhelmed with choice

Guys - the OP is in the UK where a lot (most) of the suggested tobaccos are simply not available. mopreme - the sample collections from cgars are pretty good. I've used them myself. Bear in mind though that the Sam Gawith tobaccos are sometimes more for experienced smokers as they often...
