  1. BriarsAndBottles

    Jim's Sutliff Paradoxical Review.

Still plenty if it out there it seems. I’m wondering as people were unable to to get previous entries in the series demand progressively slipped. Uno disappeared immediately and each one after has seemed slightly more available than the prior.

    Straight Virginia's

They’ve definitely grown on me. A really old CC (1992) opened my eyes to what they could be. I also think they need time to air out/dry/mature, and they can get better as the bowl goes on. Try opening a tin and come back to it in a few months or a year and see if that changes anything. I hated...

***What Are You Smoking, May 2023?***

Motzek strang (German blend) in my Amorelli I got from a pipe shop in Germany. Also not sure why but my best smoking pipe by far.

    Jim's Sutliff Paradoxical Review.

I’m going with the latter approach. I figure anything really worth stockpiling will eventually be available on the consignment market, so might as well fill my cellar up with a variety. I’m probably well over 100 different tins now, so who knows if I’ll ever really find a favorite anyway.

    Jim's Sutliff Paradoxical Review.

Got my three tins. One for soon, one for later, and one for either way later or to be a blank filler and sell it if I don’t love it lol.

    Summer evening moments

Actually sounds pretty new school like you are one with nature.

    Summer evening moments

I angry emoji’d you because as an outside only smoker I’d kill for a screened in deck

    Tobacco Rotation.

I have tons of tins open. I tend to think things smoke better a bit dry so nothing is jarred. Some are a few years old and still excellent.

    Oakland CA

I’ll be in Fremont tomorrow afternoon, might swing by Ohlone just to check it out.

Hercules here, city not the person. Didn’t know there was anywhere nearby, I’d definitely be in.

Aging In Sillem's Black & Rattray's Exotic Orange Tins

While they provide no protection, I find that many of those aromatics imo taste better a little drier and more subdued than when I first open them, so I kinda enjoy the journey of tasting them as the progress.

    Down at the Heel!

You guys are all awesome. In my 25 years of internetting, this has got to be my favorite exchange I’ve ever had with a bunch of people I’ve yet the pleasure of meeting.

    Down at the Heel!

I think I spend too much time reading tobaccoreviews.com. Everyone on their seems to be a self proclaimed expert. You’ve reduced my anxiety more with this reply then my therapist usually does.

    Down at the Heel!

When I get down to the last 5-10% of my smoke, it becomes difficult to impossible to keep the bowl lit and what I do combust, doesn’t taste all that great. When I dump it, what ends up in my hand (yes I dump in my hand to see the magnitude of my failure) is usually a mix of crunchy charcoal and...

Have You Noticed A Slow Down In Sales/Trading?

In the case of rare tobacco, I think it’s a supply issue. Eventually things must disappear and/or people become unwilling to part with them. I put a WTB/WTT thread in the forum, and granted I’m looking for some pretty obscure stuff, but I had ten (10) requests/lots and still haven’t gotten a...

    Danish Bits for MM Cobs

Pardon the hijack, but hearing you guys talk about upgrading cob stems makes me think they aren’t as temporary as I thought. How long are they designed - or I guess do they usually last - for?

    Flake vs. Ribbon Aging Potential

Lol. Reminds me of what I’ve heard some people call “wine diamonds” which are a good indicator of a quality wine aged well, but not something you’d ever wanna drink.
  18. BriarsAndBottles

    Flake vs. Ribbon Aging Potential

I think I’ll go with the flake as I have a lot of ribbons and broken flakes open right now.

    Flake vs. Ribbon Aging Potential

Thanks for the input. Are those crystals the “plume” or something I think I’ve seen here before.

    Flake vs. Ribbon Aging Potential

Generally speaking. All things considered equal: same leaf/blend and same tin date, what would you open first and what would you let sit? I have 100g of ribbon and 50 grams of flake of the same viriginia blend but would prefer to not open both at the same time.
