    Green Bay, Wisconsin, Meetup?

I’d be happy to do a pipe club meetup on a Friday or Saturday in September.

    Opening A Tin? Show Us!

Finally did it. Opened one of my two tins of 2022 Carolina Red Flake. Got an initial whiff of slight vinegary nose tingling, but opened up, getting a very strong smell of dried fruits, definitely apricot, but something else I can’t quite put my finger on. Apple? Pear? Peach? Excited to smoke it!

    Opening A Tin? Show Us!

Wow, where’s the shop you got this from? I’m up in Crystal Falls sometimes and would try visiting it if it’s in the neighborhood.

    Green Bay, Wisconsin, Meetup?

Maybe sometime in September? Next few weeks are pretty busy for me. I can let @alan73 know about it — since I see him at work sometimes — if we plan a time.

    Green Bay, Wisconsin, Meetup?

Welcome, fellow Wausaunian! I am also in Wausau. I think one of our forum friends down in Point was kicked off this site, but it would be fun to meet up sometime, especially while the weather is warm.

    Traditional English Blends?

A stellar under-the-radar blend from C&D: Rajah’s Court. Oriental-forward, bready and figgy Virginias, just the right amount of Latakia.

C&D Rajah’s Court (Jan 2023) in a Comoy Nougat 102. Loving this oriental-forward mild English.

    Boeing Being Boeing

Don’t forget that Boeing was involved in the design of the Titan submersible which ended in tragic failure just a year ago. Of course, they disavow, but who believes that? It just makes too much sense that they are connected.

Coffee Roasting At Home: Advice Please!

Doing the actual math, if you like high quality, roast-to-order fresh, single-origin coffee, you’re looking at about $28 a pound and that isn’t factoring in shipping. For green coffee, I’m paying about $6.50 a pound after shipping, but once roasted, the cost is closer to $7.75 a pound. That’s...

Coffee Roasting At Home: Advice Please!

I have been using secondhand West Bend Poppery II machines for coffee roasting for over 15 years. It has suited me well despite going through as much as 2 lbs of green coffee (= about 1.75 roasted) a week. I spend about two hours a week max roasting coffee. Compared to the same quality coffee...

    Is This Normal?

The fact that you are a relatively new smoker who enjoys stronger flavored blends like Plum Pudding and taking 1-2 hours to smoke a bowl (with so few relights) means that you are doing some things right, in my opinion. Sitting and slow smoking gets the most flavor and satisfaction out of your...

    Opening A Tin? Show Us!

I What year is your tin from? Looks a heckuva lot fresher than mine. Fortunately, despite the corrosion and broken seal, this flake smells heavenly and tastes as good as it smells. One of the smoothest, richest tobaccos I’ve smoked. Hope you are enjoying yours!

    Opening A Tin? Show Us!

This tin decided for me to be the next one opened. I was just looking through my drawer of tins and noticed that it was popped. Looking at the inside of the lid, I was worried that the contents would be dried out, but I think it’s still good (probably the perfect hydration, but I’ll be smoking...

***What Are You Smoking, May 2024?***

About to go out on a walk with my lovely bride in this perfect evening spring weather in the northwoods of Wisconsin. Will be smoking 4noggins Weybridge in my new Chacom 102 Nougat (which came from the same purchase in March).

    Peterson 221 vs 230?

The 221 should be the heavier pipe, as found in my comparison of Christmas 2023 pipes (and mentioned in my previous post), but I don’t know which pipes in particular the OP was looking at.
