Report - Smokefree Ideology (in the UK)

This seems to be a sound argument, dear Warren, but for some reason I'm not buying it because probably there's a little libertarian in me that rebels against it. To me your argument has two gaps in it: the first gap is - I don't find it sufficient to forbid something just for the reason...

Report - Smokefree Ideology (in the UK)

Indeed. See this quote from the Spiked article: These measures (examples are that bars and restaurants are only granted additional OUTDOOR seats when they commit to have them smoke-free) are way above the original goal to safeguard people's health. It's just a ban for the sake of its own.

    Dan Tobacco Old Ironsides

In general, when it comes to German made blends, I am not a huge fan of DTM tobaccos because they mostly lack the complexity and maturity in blending provided by HU and, in comparison, come across rather flat and one-dimensional. But no rule without exception, and that is the American History...

Report - Smokefree Ideology (in the UK)

Via Spiked I came across a really frightening report by Josie Appleton (a non-smoker) for a Civil Liberties magazine: https://www.spiked-online.com/2020/09/30/now-they-want-to-ban-smoking-at-home/ Full report here.

Samuel Gawith Black XX Rope Review

I once had a bowl of Black XX and must say that this kind of jack-tar stuff is not my cup of tea. Well, to each their own, but what really sucked about it was that it ghosts like hell. I had smoked it in a lovely Jeppesen and could still taste it after the next 10 smokes in the same pipe. So...

    Bruno Nuttens Bing

Oh so rare. I know a few guys that have it, and would never ever trade it..

    Bruno Nuttens Bing

Spea Speaking of Stanwells: My first reason to get the Nuttens bing was to find a substitute for my white whale, the Stanwell 2010 which I consider the reference Bing. And it's darn close...

    Bruno Nuttens Bing

Why "just"? Apart from shipping and possibly custom fees, the price is not much different. I paid 130 euros incl EU shipping for the Nuttens compared to 145 for a Savinelli Bing at Huber in Munich..

    Poker Recommendations

German pipemaker Volker Hahn is known for stubby pokers. I'm not sure if forum policy allows me to post a link to his website?

    Bruno Nuttens Bing

Today I have smoked this pipe for the first time. I went for the Synjeco Bad Nun, which made a perfect match. It is a fine smoker, and also the bite is, albeit a bit thick, really soft and makes a feel-good smoke. Due to the thin walls (and the lack of break-in paste) it needs to be smoked...

If You Could Only Smoke One Tobacco For The Rest of Your Life...

Erinmore Flake in the original Murray's version. If it should be a blend currently available, HU Daddy Gefftl.

Need Help: Dating Sandblasted GBD New Era

I haven't made up my mind yet if I will keep it because I usually do not smoke Billiards - I have not a single one in my rotation. On the other hand I have a thing for pipes with a special history. On your pipe, it really looks like it's one stamp. The typefont is the same and if it was a...

Need Help: Dating Sandblasted GBD New Era

Wow thanks for the lively discussion ? A mystery indeed. I've also read somewhere that "New Eras" were all smooth, but mine is blasted. I'm pretty sure that the Le Mans stamp on my pipe was applied by the shop before sale because it's on blasted area. In Europe this is quite common that famous...

Need Help: Dating Sandblasted GBD New Era

Thanks - and that's where it gets tricky: I haven't found any other stamps than those described - no reference to "London, England". It also doesn't look like it has been buffed off. Can you say where it is usually located? And if it is absent, what would that mean for the pipe's origin?

Need Help: Dating Sandblasted GBD New Era

Dear GBD experts, I have just restored an estate GBD pipe that I acquired in a collection. But as I am not at all familiar with this brand and really confused from information on pipedia etc., maybe someone can help me. It's a sandblasted billiard with tapered stem. Quite a nice pipe, I must...

    Bruno Nuttens Bing

I have not smoked it yet, but from a cold test I would say yes, thick in the bite is true. But I rarely smoke free-handed, so it's acceptable. The blast is awesome, and the drillings all look properly done - so above all - when it turns out to smoke as great as it looks - it's great value for...

    Bruno Nuttens Bing

Hi all, I would like to share my latest purchase - a wonderful sandblasted Bing shape from Belgian pipemaker Bruno Nuttens. I really love its classy elegant shape:

    Some Pipes Evolve

I also have experiences with "evolving" pipes. One reason is the use of break-in paste. Some producers use paste that contains gum arabic which makes all tobaccos taste awful. After a couple of bowls when a decent cake has been built up, the paste taste is gone and the real tobacco taste kicks in.

    Savinelli Punto Oro Gold

Nice - I also prefer the Punto Oros. Funny enough, I have never owned a 320 though I have my share of Savinellis but somehow I never got one of these classics (I have 3 stanwell 95s though)... Enjoy!
