As always, sir, partaking of your wit 'n' wisdom is enjoyable...and often there's something to be learned too!
I myself mix up my shaving methods according to desire and necessity; I have no axe to grind...or blade to strop. A question that's ever-present when I encounter claims of the obvious...
Close, and gives the same effect. Handsome pipe, by the way.
But I believe this would be a better example of what would get @didimauw 's goat:
It would be a good example of a straight billiard, but the maker (John Calich) thought he'd give it a little razzle-dazzle...and here we are!
Based on a sample of two that I've experienced, I've found the slight bend adds comfort out of proportion to such a small touch.
Sometimes it looks odd, times it adds a distinguished air to the pipe.
For those who don't know what we're talking about, put a straight pipe on a table, bowl...
Is there a phrase for swearing and laughing out loud at the same time, in amazement? Wow!
How did you handle the stamping on the stem? Generally, due to my lack of experience and know-how, I lightly polish around any stem markings, which leaves an unsightly (to some) area.
I don't know if you're right here, but you are something even better: in complete agreement with me!
When I read the title, visions of various degrees of bends, and their names ran through my head, and just what's pictured here. Given what we're talking about, it's no surprise: it's a...
Couldn't agree more!
There's a bowl for every blend, they can handle all weather, they're light, and no pipe cleaners needed: take off the bowl, blow through the stem, give it a flick; good to go.
The younger generations find them fascinating, too.
Falcons. More stems and bowls then you could pointy a shaky stick at.
Nothing wrong with lurking! I like my pipes and tobaccos straight-up...once politics gets stirred in, it becomes tedious quickly. But I see the appeal: some need to vent.
I pretty much always let this stuff slide, but I'm driven by curiosity, so here's a question: the guy asks about how to replace a favourite, lost blend. Why would you think to make it about politics? You're not being amusing, novel, or informative...what was your intention here?
Sometimes pipe smoking can be heartbreaking: a favourite blend *poof!* gone without warning. In your case though, if Gawith & Hoggarth don't make it (or something really close), you don't need it. They put out a number of aromatic blends that should satisfy you, some being under the "American...
Bowl upside down. It's a solution that pops up every so often in the pipe world...a solution to what, I'm not too sure of. Never having tried it, I could only guess as to why it never catches on.
Last time I saw a marketing effort for this style was in the 90s; Barry Levin was selling upside...
Just for the record, should someone find this thread while looking for information about the Ornsby...
After years of wanting one, I picked up my first Ornsby this year. I would get a second, and a third...but it does have its issues as a smoker. The first, very minor depending upon the smoker...
Packard? Duesenberg?? Invoking names which represented the pinnacle of both engineering and, in combination with coachbuilders, artistic mastery, as being analogous to these pipes just won't do.
What we have here is akin to the Cadillac Cimarron: a lot of sizzle, not much steak. It's somehow...
Normally I'm quite happy to remain a lurker, breezing through once in awhile to partake of @Briar Lee 's wit and wisdom.
Today I've learned why a law degree is quite different from a degree in maths, and why lawyers hire accountants: going from 6mm diameter to 8mm is an increase of 33.3%, not...
