    1792 Flake

Just scored two pounds of SG 1792 Flake from my new favorite online tobacconist: http://fujipub.com/82ave/index.html Very nice people, and shorter ship times than the East coast. Asp

Altadis sample received. It was Sutliffe No. 5 Blend

I received my free sample the other day, and it turned out to be a tin of #5 blend. I decided to get an 8 oz. tin after just three pipes. It's a very pleasant smoke--kind of a Balkan Sasieni light. I'm no reviewer and possess no vocabulary for this task that doesn't sound overused (e.g...

Ropp Pipes--French web site shows the history of manufacture

If you are a Ropp collector (I'm up to 19), this is the place for you. Even if you don't speak French, it has hundreds of pictures showing the history of the Ropp family operations and tons of factory views. If you will bookmark Google Word Monkey to your tool bar, it's easy to select text and...

    Favorite Pipe Smoking Musician

For me, it's gotta be Albert King, the late bluesman with the left-handed Gibson "Flying V" who influenced many of my 60's favorite bands (like Cream) and was known to play in a cloud of pipe smoke (see below). I still get off on "Crosscut Saw" and "Red House" after all these years.

10 to Midnite and Classic Burley Kake

After reading Part Deux of the interview with Russ Ouellette, I'm wondering if anyone has tried the 10 to Midnite or Classic Burley Kake? Impressions?

Four new pipes on the way...

Picked up four unsmoked Ropp pipes off ebay yesterday. Two are smaller, with curved (I hesitate to say "bent")stems, and two are Alpine-style of different sizes. They were listed as "collectibles" but I intend to use them in my eclectic rotation (whatever suites my mood or the time I have)...

    Duplex pipe loads

Smoked my latest pipe for the second time tonight...a large freehand Ben Wade off eBay. For the second pipe, I loaded the bottom half with Bracken Flake, and the top half with Balkan Flake. Anyone else tried this? It was heavenly... Bruce.

Anyone Ever Smoke a Cigar in a Pipe?

I remember seeing old guys (what I am now) smoking a pipe with a cigar sticking up out of it in rural Wisconsin as a youth. Anyone know of such a practice, and the rationale (if any) for it? Anyone tried it?

    Cellaring - tobaccos--best practices

Having just re-entered the pipe-smoking realm after a 32-year hiatus, I've been reading much of the web site in search of current wisdom. I've never "cellared" tobacco before and wonder what best practices might be. Any suggestions are most welcome. Bruce

Favorite Sherlock Holmes movie for pipe smokers?

I was watching TBS a couple of weekends ago and watched three Sherlock Holmes movies with Basil Rathbone and Nigel Bruce played the weekend that the new SH movie with Robert Downey opened. In the film "Sherlock Holmes Faces Death", about supposed murders at a home for retired officers, there is...
