    Dublin Shapes and Tobacco Choices

As someone who smokes a number of different aromatics, can I ask why you think they (and latakias) aren't as good in tall narrow chambers? Genuinely curious, as it could play into future pipe purchases.

    Assigned Tobacco

I would agree with you (and many others) that a codger blend would be good for beginners. 1Q is fine, but those classics are less likely to bite with the inevitable rookie mistakes that happen (and continue to in my case). Carter Hall is still one of my favorites, although my stock is running...

One Tobacco To Rule Them All

I probably should have kept my old cob for making a snowman with my kids, they would have loved that!

I Get By With a Little Help From My Friends

If you do a full restore you should post before and after photo's!

One Tobacco To Rule Them All

Intriguing question! I haven't explored enough tobacco's to quite be content with only one, but I have given thoughts to limiting myself to one or so in each major category. Anyways, if I had to choose right now, I think it would have to be either Hunting Creek. It is the one I always...

    Dublin Shapes and Tobacco Choices

That was my initial thought, but I know a few people who swear that for certain types of tobacco, the shape of the bowl does make a difference. Now, I'm not nearly so experienced as to notice for myself, although I could see how a bigger bowl might bring about a greater experience than small...

    Oxidation Issue

Not gonna lie, I really don't like vulcanite stems. It has been one of the main factors in keeping me from smoking my Peterson as much as my quality pipes.

    Dublin Shapes and Tobacco Choices

Has anyone noticed if any given tobaccos or blends burn best in Dublin bowls? For instance, I've often heard that Virginia blends often work best in tall, narrow bowls, and that English blends do best with wider bowls. Is there any generalizations for Dublin shapes, or is all of this nonsense? I...

What Time of Day do you Enjoy your Pipe the Most?

Generally in the evenings after supper, and preferably when sitting around. I used to live with my friend in a log cabin, and it was there that we'd smoke the evening away, listening to a crackly radio broadcasting the local hockey game or classic 60's, 70's, and 80's music. We also played many...

    Old Reviews

Agreed. I know that I would be terrible at giving reviews so I hesitate to fault the less useful ones, but merely saying "this is my favorite" or "this tastes like ______" doesn't really help a whole lot

    Moldy Meanderings

Boy that is rough! I've lived in a couple of houses where mold seemed to grow unchecked in the summers, but never have I had any tobacco go moldy.

    Benefits of Sandblasted Pipes?

That is a sharp looking finish! Beautiful indeed

    Benefits of Sandblasted Pipes?

That's fair. For me it really depends on the pipe model and shape. Some seem to be much more friendly to straight grain finishes than others (at least to me). I do prefer sandblast to rusticated finishes as a whole

    Benefits of Sandblasted Pipes?

The argument I've heard is that they are generally not as nice of grain, so the lesser aesthetic quality lowers the prices. I know it likely varies on the make and model, but a couple I've looked at had price variances of $20 or so between the two

    Benefits of Sandblasted Pipes?

I didn't even think of the practical elements like cleaning or routine maintenance! All that makes sense though. The lack of concern for scorched rims is kinda cool though

Some Snack Foods You Might Pass Up On!!

Yeah I've heard that countless times, and it was so engrained as gospel truth that when I first saw mold on a twinkie, I tried coming up with an alternate explanation! I would say that they didn't last all that much longer than the highly preserved Danishes that we got from the same vendor

Some Snack Foods You Might Pass Up On!!

I've definitely confirmed this. I used to work at a gas station while in high school, as we certainly had twinkies go bad in the package

    Benefits of Sandblasted Pipes?

I'm certainly not opposed to them! I definitely concur with the feel, they are far grippier in the hand than a smooth. Interesting that you confirmed the cooling point, I wasn't sure if that was just some subjective opinion or not.

    Benefits of Sandblasted Pipes?

Are there any benefits to have a sandblasted finish on a pipe? Or a rusticated finish? I get that they are generally less expensive and they cover up less spectacular grain, but I have also been told they smoke cooler and hold up better to abuse (maybe because they don't show scratches or dings...

    Cobblestone Burley?

As much as I hate to see a lack of competition, from a pure business standpoint it does make sense.
