What are You Drinking? (January 2021)

Both excellent choices. It’s hard to go wrong with Islay, in my opinion. Have you tried the Ardbeg Wee Beastie yet? Unbelievably good for around $50!

What are You Drinking? (January 2021)

This has been increasingly hard to come by in my area, so I was glad to see one lonely bottle this afternoon at my favorite local shop.

What are You Drinking? (January 2021)

I’ve loved this malt for years, but recently opened a bottle for the first time in a while. Finished it in just a few days ?

Capstan For The Top 1% Only

I actually prefer the Ready Rubbed. It’s definitely just flakes that have been tumbled. To be fair, I’ve only been smoking both the Flake and RR from 2013, for the last 8 years. The additional surface area and larger tin (more oxygen) seem to have been kinder to the RR and since I rarely fold n’...

    Why The Dislike For Latakia?

I'll try to answer this quickly, because it's Friday and I have tea to drink and old tobacco to burn... ? Generally, this applies to coffee, tea, and tobacco. There are several factors that contribute to strength, but it's mostly two: amount of "strength" (nicotine, caffeine) present in the...

    Why The Dislike For Latakia?

I'm not sure if he was talking world-wide, but I'll wager that within the US, climate has little to do with what people smoke. Most people smoke aromatics, by far. Just like most people drink Bud Light, or whatever. There's easy access to a handful of mass-market aromatics and many, many smokers...

    Why The Dislike For Latakia?

I think many pipe smokers seem to follow a similar path; they begin with things that smell pleasant in the tin/bag/big jar on their local tobacconist's shelf and are usually turned off because those tobaccos never taste as good as they smell, and they also tend to require a good handle on...

    Why The Dislike For Latakia?

People who don't like Islay malts are definitely wrong, though.

Fribourg & Treyer - Cut Blended Plug

Great review! I've loved the F&T Virginia flakes for years and it's a toss up between Cut Blended Plug and Special Brown Flake for my favorite in their range. FWIW, CBP in particular ages extremely well (I find that Vintage and CVP are just good with serious age).

    Forgot My Humidor Completely

Boveda is absolutely the way to go. They actually regulate in both directions, so a 65% pack will pull moisture exceeding that, or release moisture in an environment that's under 65%. Boveda themselves recommend one of the larger 60g packs for every 25 cigars, which I would also recommend...

New Rule: Complaints About a Service / Product / Maker / Brand

I like this and want to hear more. I might easily be persuaded to provide briar cadavers in the name of science.

    C'Mon Smokingpipes.com!!!! Get With It

Sykes’ answer about C&D’s growth applies here as well, but the short answer regarding Smokingpipes.com is that it’s both. We’ve seen a lot of new customers in the past few years (few months, even) and many existing and new customers are more engaged and interested in exploration tobacco-wise...

They’re certainly “related,” but the Flake is more balanced, IMHO. I find it to be a better all-day smoke, to my taste. My taste aside, the Cake is slightly more full, spicier, less sweet; it seems to have a higher percentage of both Perique and Kentucky. The flake is sweeter and has a more...

    C'Mon Smokingpipes.com!!!! Get With It

I’ve heard a few things, but nothing conclusive and not for some weeks, other than we haven’t received any. Give me a bit of time to see what we can find out and I’ll report back. FWIW, if we’re out of stock and we have been informed that a given product has been discontinued, you won’t see it...

    Rookie Question About Aging

I move what I intend to smoke sooner, to a jar. It'll keep aging/changing once it's in the jar, even if you dip into it every now and again. 2010 tins will definitely be ready to smoke!

    C'Mon Smokingpipes.com!!!! Get With It

It really can be discouraging, I get that for sure. Scottish Flake is my favorite tobacco. Do you know how many tins I've been able to add to the cellar in the last year? Four. Four tins. We have a daily limit of 2 tins and it's never around for longer than a day, and sometimes I miss out...

    Rookie Question About Aging

Yes. Tobacco will age however you store it, as long as it's not in a container that isn't air-tight (like a plastic baggie). The tobacco will age differently depending on how much oxygen is in the container to start, and whether or not you dip into the container on occasion. Some folks prefer...

I'll be 33 soon and started when I was 18, so it's been nearly 15 years. The first blend I loved and was loyal to was "Burley English," a Burley-based Latakia/Turkish blend made by Racine & Laramie in San Diego. And yes, they blended it; it wasn't rebranded bulk. It took me a few years of...

    C'Mon Smokingpipes.com!!!! Get With It

We've said it before, but we would love to have more tobacco to sell and we always order more than we end up getting. There's a lot of factors in the supply chain, but it's generally just because everyone is selling more tobacco collectively than we were several years ago. Some things (Gawith...
