What Cigar Are You Smoking? 2025

I just tried for the first time a Brick House Mighty-mighty Maduro. I was very pleased with it! Smooth draw, deep yet mellow flavors with a hint of sweetness. I will definitely plan to have another one in the future!

When is the tobacco bowl done?

I think the easiest answer is…. The bowl is done, when you, the smoker either a) are tired of smoking it, b) have the flavors start to change in a way that you no longer enjoy, or c) has the tobacco turns to ash. A single bowl of pipe tobacco, IMO, is not worth fretting over about trying to...

    A Question On Materials

Hmm. I seem to remember some folks back in college in the 70s who would smoke something out of a pipe they had carved in an apple 🍎. 🙂

    Acquiring Allergies

It is a potentially logical association. Autoimmune conditions result from an immune system response that is above normal where the immune cells will lose the ability to differentiate cells of the body as “self” and will perceive those cells as invader/infectious cells and attempt to destroy...

    Acquiring Allergies

Do you by chance have any sort of autoimmune disorder (Lupus, Fibromyalgia, Myasthenia Gravis, etc.)? If so, that may explain the growing list of items you are becoming overly sensitized to.

    Flavor Intensifying Throughout the Bowl?

For me, the following generally is true for both pipes and cigars: At the start, the flavors and textures of the smoke are typically “soft” and somewhat “average” in flavors. In the middle range of a pipe or cigar, I find the flavors building in strength and flavor, but also being rather...

Someone's Trying to Lure Me Back

Well, I can say I am glad you are still sticking around here whether you are smoking pipes or not. I typically have always enjoyed your posts very much. But I have to ask…. there is a RYO crowd??? And, with you saying there is….. they are more like minded and friendlier than us?!? If you...

Am I Becoming a Real Man?

Increased tolerance will come with greater consumption.

Am I Becoming a Real Man?

Probably not tolerance going up in a one time event. More likely you had higher stress hormones which would mitigate the normal impact. Yet, that is a way to build tolerance…. by keeping smoking UNTIL you get the desired effect.

How can a pipe sell for $5,610?

To me, while the pipe is “artisan” and done well as an “art” piece…. to my own tastes, it is rather ugly (probably I should say, “unattractive”). For me it looks like a melted blob. If there was a $50 pipe in a “lesser” briar of that shape, for me I would forgo it to get a standard shaped Dr...

    What's your favorite aromatic?

I agree with you about Arrowhead and Cayuga, and Paul’s!

    Rainy Weather Smokes?

Any pipe tobacco of my preference at the moment is fair game for me in stormy weather. If the rain is excessive, I have often rotated the bowl downward so it does not collect rain water.

    A Satisfying Finish

YEARS?!?!? Oh, my! What on Earth has been so harsh in your life that you haven’t had a single chance to smoke your pipe in YEARS? I shudder to imagine.

What Cigar Are You Smoking? 2025

To start off May, a Perdomo Habano.

What Was Your First "I Gotta Buy 5 Pounds of This Stuff!" Tobacco?

Three, one-pound cans of SWR cube-cut, non-aromatic back in probably 1979.

    Photos from 2002 Chicago Show

Uh, yeah…. I agree completely. When it was suggested 2002 was the “past”…. Making it seem “old”, I thought about it being 23 damn years ago! I am OLD….. (sigh), for me the “past” suggests the 1950s or early 1960s! 🤣

    Naphtha and Mouth Health

Have you ever simply rotated the BOWL of the pipe 45 - 90 degrees during the LIGHTING phase…. along with a “cupped” hand around the bowl…. when it is windy? I am not sure if I have described it well enough….. but this pattern came about (rather innately) for me long, long ago and it works...

I Know it's Been Done Before, but Post Some Cool Piping Photos.

I really thank you for posting this! It is extremely interesting to get this glimpse into Vonnegut, an author I have admired for a long time. I had never known about this side of his life prior to being a novelist and it is intriguing. I also never knew he had some modicum of interest in...

    Unexpected Nicotine Sickness

Interesting. I have never seen Nicorette Mouth Spray. Sounds like it WOULD be nicer than gum or lozenges.

Hmm. I regret to say I am not recognizing who that is. Tell us, who is this?
