    Vulcanite Question

Use a churchwarden pipe cleaner with tripoli compound rubbed onto it, only put the compound towards the center of the pipe cleaner, makes it easy to slide the pipe cleaner into the hole. Chuck one end into a vise etc.. and hold the other end with one hand, then slide the stem up and down with...

Viprati Estate Pipe Too Weird Not To Have

Also take into consideration how big the draught hole is, a simple straight line (as drawn here) is not proportionately correct. That would leave a mighty thin spot in the top of the shank, not to mention where the 2 meet on the bottom. Another problem would be the depth of the mortise.

    Briar Types

As Sas said, you can't tell from the outside what's going to be on the inside. For instance, take this Manno block from 2012, decent tight grain on the outside with NO pitting visible. After finding the crack while still on the lathe I decided to do some exploratory investigation to see how bad...

Hunting Red VAs and McClelland Wannabes

This thread reminded me that I had picked up a pound of 515 RC1 6 months or so ago. Didn't care much for it so I jarred it up with the plan of trying it every once in awhile to see how it changed. Well I dug it out lastnight only to realize I had bought and jarred it up on 12/18, time flies when...
