    I Remember When..........

I remember when all freight trains had a caboose. We were probably 13 or 14 always hanging at the tracks running our traps or just plinking with our air guns. A slow moving train would go by and if the guys were lounging around the caboose we'd yell at them,"throw us some fusees " (sometimes...

    I Remember When..........

I remember when I could walk into the Tinder Box at the mall and buy six different blends of Balkan Sobrani for about five bucks each.

    I Remember When..........

19Nov2025 Thought but it would be fun to start a thread reminiscent of the past things we remember but are long gone. Be creative from your past! I remember when....... I was growing up if family or friends came to visit, they never asked if they could smoke, they just asked for a ashtray.😊

    Why are some pipes “expensive”?

Many folks can really appreciate hand made items. Carries a lot of weight with some collectors. I know I can really appreciate that, thinking some guy carved this or that with his own two hands. It's different when something is machine made by many different workers, or just hand finished. I...

    Devil Anse Pipes?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Devil_Anse_Hatfield Came from the miniseries, Kevin Costner played Anes and smoked that pipe. Interestingly, I've read Anse didn't even smoke a pipe. But I could be wrong.

    Why are some pipes “expensive”?

You did no wrong, carry on. I would however suggest this. If you're going to get serious about high end pipes I'd suggest going to a large pipe show, like Chicago. There you can see in your hands the different makers, fit, finish and compare. I think its the best way to experience a vast number...

    Tin bids veracity

I agree. Just a guess but I'd say most of those high prices aren't shipped to the US. Which kind of messes up the pricing. But it's a supply and demand game.

You have to fill out a custom form. You can legally mark it as a gift. You have to state what you are shipping and value i.e. tobacco. I'm not sure of the taxes on a gift.

    Why are some pipes “expensive”?

Yes you are correct and you still have $10,000 knives, watches, pens and guitars.

    Why are some pipes “expensive”?

A good pipe may cost the maker $50 in materials and 25 years of practice.
