Found This Very Large Piece Of Burley

The elusive Sutliff Long Mahogany Flake blend.

    Opening A Tin? Show Us!

This is fake news. No one ever opens Eso tins!

    Favorite Rum Blends?

    Golly that pipe is beautiful.

    TAD Acquisitions 2025

I also had an 8oz can in a recent order to supplement the pair of 2oz tins in my cellar. Love DFK and it's a fantastic smoke.

    Opening A Tin? Show Us!

Opened a 2014 tin of Lane Crown Achievement this evening. Unfortunately rust had compromised the seal before I acquired it and it was dry, bordering on crispy. I still loaded up a bowl and did the exhale rehydration thing, and it smoked well and tasted pretty darn good. I have the remainder of...

    Frog Morton Substitute

Gone due to the Sutliffocalypse, so not worth falling in love with.

    Any Info Would Be Appreciated!

And yet the question remains, who is the maker and model?

    Frog Morton Substitute

I'm happy to send you a sample of MilForce, I have 6+ ounces in my active cellar and in mylar. DM if interested.

    Any Info Would Be Appreciated!

The Birdseye & grain on that first pipe are FANTASTIC, even with the various fills. It looks like a knock-off Peterson System 307 or a Wellington (which the stem kinda appears to be). Is there a well inside the shank? Perhaps that is an after-market replacement copper band, thus removing any...

    Frog Morton Substitute

I'm pretty certain that English Biscuit is a crossover (light aro English), but as I say, I've not tried any off that second grouping, so I can't say for certain. Perhaps @blametony has some insight, as he's tried them all?

Question about availability of certain Mc Baren's blends on SPC

The full list of what remains after the MacB/Sutliffocalypse: The worst part is that the only Sutliff they kept was the absolute shite of the aromatics, killing off all of their blending tobaccos. Utter foolishness.

    Frog Morton Substitute

Sweetness-wise, of the ones I've tried, it goes Countryside (sweetest), Northwoods (mid-sweet), Military Force (least sweet, but still a touch). Latakia-wise reverses that order, with MilFor at the top. In the English category they also have Railroad Station, English Biscuit, Magnum, Imperial...

    Frog Morton Substitute

Countryside is definitely sweeter than Northwoods, with a little less latakia. Military Force is still my favorite in the Boswell English line, it has a sweet pine note that just hits perfectly when I'm out on the patio.

When to jar freshly opened tobacco?

I've been told that a freshly-opened round tin will be fine for 6+ weeks, and a lot of blends actually taste better with a few days of airing after the tin is first opened, so there's no hurry to jar it up the same day you open it.

    Consensus opinion

I just went back and checked a May 2024 tin and it does indeed say Straight Virginia, so I humbly withdraw my statement that the current production is a VaBur.

Followed by a bowl of WCC Deluxe Crumb Cut in a MM Virginia Planter. Sweet and lovely.

HH Rustica in a Savinelli Dry System second. Spicy!

    TAD Acquisitions 2025

This is the correct reading. As proof, this STG tin date code shows that YYMMDDXXXX doesn’t compute, as the second pair of numbers (13) is not a valid month.
  19. khiddy

    Consensus opinion

The (current production) label specifically mentions the inclusion of burley, so it is at least a VaBur, topping notwithstanding.

    Consensus opinion

He's now popped on to the WLT forum where he's trying to peddle his "McClelland added vinegar to their products, everybody knows it" schtick. Not long for this place anymore, methinks. Or there, I'd bet.
