I smoked 2017 Christmas Cheer in my GBD Prehistoric 508 bent billiard with a Perspex stem while ZOOM-ing with my Saturday meeting buddies. Great conversation, camaraderie and a very satisfying smoke.
After a sumptuous Thanksgiving dinner with my family, I enjoyed a bowl of Samovar in my Peterson Sherlock Holmes Original from 1988, while watching The Hound of the Baskervilles on TV.
I hope all who celebrated had a great Thanksgiving.
One of the things I'm most thankful for is this community...
One of the great pianists/accompanists of Jazz, Teddy Wilson was born 11-24-1912. Here he is with his trio, including Jo Jones, from a 1963 concert at Chicago's Civic Opera House:
Today, Greek mezzo-soprano Agnes Baltsa, celebrates her 80th. birthday. (11-19-1944)
Here's one of the lovely songs from her album, Songs My Country Taught Me, "Oniro pedion tis gitonias" (Dream of the urban children) by Manos Hatzidakis.
"My Kind of Town" performed by Frank Sinatra and Count Basie at the Sands, arranged and conducted by Quincy Jones, who just passed. May his memory be eternal.
As I smoke mostly English and Balkan blends, I find Upton Tea's Baker Street Afternoon Blend (Lapsang Souchong, Keemun and Darjeeling) to be a wonderful complement to the enjoyment of a bowl and beverage.
I got caught up with my Saturday ZOOM buddies, as I missed two weeks. One week was our church GreektoberFest and last week was the celebration of our church's Saint's Day (Saint Demetrios).
I smoked some Drama Reserve in my Peterson 999 smooth Dracula (just a wee bit late for Halloween). A mug...
Both Phil Woods and Rudy Van Gelder were born on November 2nd. (Phil 1931, Rudy 1924). Here is Phil and his Quartet, recorded by Rudy in 1955 performing the title tune of the album Woodlore:
One of the most thrilling of opera performances, "Si pel ciel" from Otello, Placido Domingo and Sherrill Milnes with the Met Orchestra led by James Levine.
Happy World Opera Day!
There was talk of favorite Halloween songs among my friends and I have quite a few favorite tunes. I thought I would start sharing with a real oldie from 1936 by The 5 Jones Boys (not really all brothers, and not really named Jones.)
