    A Wine Dinner

Fun fact: In the 19th century, Maine lobsters---the same type that sell for a small fortune today---were considered disgusting, bottom-feeding "ocean insects" unfit for consumption by right-minded people, so were used as prison food for convicts. nom nom

    Show me that workhorse pipe!

Here it is new. Have smoked it 6-8 times a day since. Too handy to NOT fill and light non-stop from when I wake up to when I go to bed.

Couldn't matter in any event. Everyone knows that pipe making is as simple as washing dirty dishes. You just grab a briar block, squiggle some tools around on it, hold it up for final inspection, and set it on a rack.

    Perfecto Perfection

I read somewhere that a cigar factory's best rollers are assigned the most difficult shapes, and they take a lot of pride in it. Having smoked a Padron 1926 in the Perfecto shape last night, I now totally "get" how well a cigar CAN be made. Absolutely perfect draw, and the ash held the cigar's...

    Who's Still Enjoying Churchwardens?

Yup, the mind, she slipped. I don't remember making a short stem for that pipe, but (obviously) did, in 2015. Then (apparently) didn't like it as much as I thought I would (or something), so replaced it with the CW-length one in 2021. More pix of it here...

    Castello Sea Rock

Good question. The "diamond" on the side---as opposed to the white bar on the top---was a special case sort of thing for pipes shipped to the US once upon a time. (Can't remember why... some sort of trademark hassle/requirement, probably). Anyway, the shop might not even be equipped for them...

    Castello Sea Rock

Fun fact: the "diamond" is a tiny ball of aluminum foil that's been compressed in the bottom of its hole with a facet-ground drill rod, then sealed in place with clear acrylic.

Everything's Bigger in Texas... Even the Lightning

I think it's for real. I saw something similar in the corner of the Texas Panhandle in June of 1982, while headed SW down US-54 between Dalhart and Stratford. It was around 3:00 am, and things got so crazy I pulled off the road to watch. There was multi-colored cloud-to-ground sheet lightning...
