    Merry Christmas and Thank You

To each of you and yours, I hope your Christmas is joyous and filled with much happiness. A warm and heartfelt thank-you to each of the members, even those who sometimes drive me to distraction. I've slipped into the "new normal" with the help of each and everyone of you. Thank you!

    If You . . . . . .

We've all seen this question over and over. So finish question as you wish and let's be done with it. . . . could only have 2000 pounds cellared what blends would you have down there? . . . you were marooned on a deserted island, how many different pipes would make you contented?

He was trying to keep the milestone low key. Fat chance!

    New Status Achieved!

It is official! I've been a son, a brother, a husband and a father. I can now answer when someones says: "Grandfather?" Yes I am! As of 15 minutes ago! A healthy boy and a healthy mother! I am blessed!

    Best Nicotine Hit Ever!

Alas, it was just a wee quake that lasted a minute or so. I thought someone had made a rather serious, albeit welcomed, mistake when they blended up the "Balkan Supreme."

Those of who who have lived in the "Preferred" neighborhood will no doubt notice a reduction in your property taxes. You're welcome!

Bad Peterson Pipes - From Where?

The question has been asked more than once and unanswered, so I will start a thread. You folks that are continually finding poorly built Peterson pipes, where the heck are you getting them from? As I have said in other threads I would buy no pipe that didn't pass my eye ball test, felt good in...

    Brown Irish - Learning Curve

First rope, very tasty. I found that there is a learning curve to twists. This particular one needs to rubbed out a wee bit more for the second bowl. Numerous relights were required but . . . it just got better and better! "Brown Irish Twist" just might make it into the regular rotation.

    Inintentionaly Cellared Navy Flake

I discovered a 20-25 year old tin of Navy Flake amongst some packed away stuff. Spent a few days slowly bringing some moisture into the flake. Not bad! Not bad at all, and it was never one of my favorites back then, which explains the 20 year oversight.

Tobacco Snobs - Routine When Tasting

I use the term "tobacco snob" endearingly as I believe that is how it is used on the site. The questions I have, and you need not go into great detail, is do you have a set routine that you follow when testing a new, to you, blend? Fresh pipe? Palate cleanser? Certain time of day? Do you study...

    4noggins Attaboy

If you don't know, I arrived here very leery of on-line vendors. Well, I sucked it up and ordered some bowls for the new Falcon from a sponsor, 4noggins. I'm impressed and emailed an "attaboy" to them lauding their service. I placed the order on the 25th extant and the bowls are sitting on my...

    New Favorite Place to Smoke

I'm sitting here smoking a bit of Perfection at the computer, enjoying some of the threads and scintillating banter and it dawned on me that I'm enjoying my pipe as much as I do when I'm in "himself's chair" with a book and a pint. Further, it's been three days since I've folded myself into my...

    Question - Friendship Requests

I notice that I have a couple of friendship requests. Exactly what is my obligation should I except a request? Am I obligated to back up their every opinion? Lend them money? Send gifts for birthdays, weddings, graduations, new cars, the acquisition of an expensive pipe, births, etc.? Would...

    Variety, It's a Good Thing, I Think

For many years, a least since the last real tobacconist closed his doors in Anchorage, I've pretty well stuck to a couple of blends and been quite satisfied. The old "Tobacco Cache" encouraged dipping the bowl into a jar and trying a new blend now and then. Hard to do that with mail-order so I...

The Falcon Has Landed - Verrrrry Interesting!

Just arrived this afternoon. I was familiar with the look and the concept and was very dubious about the pipe until reading a few germane threads on this site. So, I sucked it up and ordered one, a bent, as we have no quality tobacconist in Anchorage. As an aside, it is the first pipe I've...

    Gawith Perfection

I have a new tin. As yet unopened. I'd like a couple of responses to this as soon as possible. KIeeping in mind that everyone's taste are a bit different; "What am I to expect?"

    Your "Go To" Tobacco

Even though I am a lover of all things perique or latakia my "go to" smoke is 3 Star Blue. By "go to" I mean it's the one I turn to when I don't want surprises or intense flavor. It's the tobacco I turn to when making my first or second test drive of a new pipe. Do any others have an old and...

    First Metal Smoke

Ordered a Falcon from Iwan Ries, my first. Any caveats?
