    Show me that workhorse pipe!

The best-looking dates are not necessarily the best dates. Sometimes you prefer one with more life experience and less pretentiousness. 🤠👍 I'd put a pipe like that into "The DB's" category for life experience.

    Chronic wet smoker

That's actually a heckuva good point.

Show off Your Corn Cobs Here!

Posted this in the more recent "Workhorse" thread, but as a newbie, I figured I'd post the pic here as well for posterity. I won't duplicate the actual post, but the story behind it can be found in the aforementioned linked thread.

    Show me that workhorse pipe!

The 60+ year-old cob that just won't die... Back in 2010 I bought a box lot of vintage cobs on Ebay, and I mean vintage. These pipes appeared to be from the late 1950's or early 1960's based on their unsmoked patina and the manufacturer labels. There were approximately 14 various unsmoked...

    Amphora

Agreed. well-crafted pipes. I have about a half-dozen of various shapes from the X-tra series, and they have all been consistently great smokers, to the point that a couple of them have been dedicated to certain blends. I'll buy them all day long at mostly still-reasonable prices. And they're...

    Zippo Pipe Lighters...Opinions Please!

1.5 years late to this thread, but I'm a die-hard Zippo lover. I have several with the pipe chimney insert, and they are my go-to for pipe smoking, since I'm mainly an outdoor smoker.

    SP C&D 20% sale started

Bayou Morning, Bayou Nights, I am particularly fond of Star of the East Gold, which is Oriental heavy, and somewhat reminiscent of Gawith Squadron Leader. Also recommend Bow-Legged Bear, but watch out for the heavy nic hit on this one. It will sneak up on you.

    I Remember When..........

I remember back when, if you lived in an American small town or rural community and you wanted to buy a pipe, you went down to the local drug store or general store (yes, they were still around), and your choices pretty much looked like this-- or this-- If you wanted anything other...

    G.L. Pease: Silver Jubilee

Not a fan of "intentional" shortages, as it generates unneeded "FOMO" among the target demo, and artificially inflates prices both at the retail level and the secondary market. The Pappy Van Winkle strategy... ho-hum. Is there a special secret GLP decoder ring in each can? It might indeed be a...

    Chronic wet smoker

Keep your tongue off of the bit button as much as possible. Your tongue is the primary saliva conduit in the process. It's a learned behavior, because it's only natural to rest your tongue against the bit to stabilize it in your mouth.

    Cats and Pipes

While I love dogs, I really bond with cats. I suppose it's the like-minded sense of independence. I've owned many through the years, but I've never had an animal so devoted to me as Freyja, my Norwegian Forest Cat. Whenever the day comes that we have to part ways, it's gonna hurt like hell...

***What Are You Smoking, November 2025?***

I generally smoke Virginias and Burleys only in my cobs, but I think I'm gonna have to try this combo. 🤠
