Meerschaum: The Ultimate Pipe For Trekking

Yeah, my photos are terrible but the pipe is rusticated. I did fall down on loose rock a few times. For long hikes, I like that I can keep smoking the same pipe. I am good with a briar pipe for a one or two day trip.

Meerschaum: The Ultimate Pipe For Trekking

I recently got back into trekking and climbing local mountains. I would normally bring a cob but I don’t like smoking a cob all day as they can get that damp muddled taste after consecutive bowls. I started bringing my OMS cased meerschaum and I haven’t looked back. The case protects the pipe...

    Artisan Spigots?

Thank you for all the suggestions. The pipes by Ron Powel look amazing. I will look into his work and Northern Briars.

    Pipe Tattoos

That is a nice crisp tattoo. I have a three-quarter sleeve of Japanese peonies, but no pipes.

    Castello “H”

I also prefer to know where my pipes come from. The generic US stamp is no different than having a stamp from the shops the pipes were sold through.

    Artisan Spigots?

Does anyone know of any artisan pipe makers who will make a silver spigot pipe? I know Chris Askwith makes faux spigots with a regular tenon. Altinay will make Meer spigots but was wondering about briar.

Slimming Down -- Culling the Collection

I had to cull my rotation when it got too cluttered and lacking any coherent orientation. I am trying to limit them to a six day set of Castello Castellos and six artisan pipes. I also had the Castello stems thinned down by Tim West.

    Colored Stems

Instead of being hype, I see it as change in construction material. Vulcanite was the predominate used material for stems for the last century. As other plastics came into use, more color options came into existence. That said, variety is the spice of life.

What Would You Do With This Broken Castello

I would probably shed a tear. After the anger and sadness wore off, I would send it to a repairman for a replacement tenon. We had one member here send in a Castello to the factory for a stem replacement and it was no where near perfection.

    Experience with Radice Reverse-Calabash Pipes

Hi all, I am looking to see if anyone has experience with Radice reverse-calabash pipes? Do the stems loosen over time from the constant removing of the stem to clean the calabash reservoir?

It is now De Luxe Escudo / DLE.

    Dunhill Deluxe Navy Rolls

I prefer DLNR over Escudo. The difference is that Dunhill/Peterson has some prune juice in the casing. The Virginia’s might be slightly different but not far off. I agree with what pantsboots said about DLNR being sweeter and richer.

C&D Sunbear 2021 Edition “Black Locust”

I was ?. Noticed all the commotion on the thread this morning. I ran out of 2019 Sun Bear. I thought it was exceptional but gone forever. I did think that the remaining stock of this release would last until mid morning as there are some who dislike it. That said, I think this is less about...

Does Anyone Chew Their Pipe Tobacco?

I’ll chew a flake on long drives to help me stay awake. Sometimes you just need more nicotine than a pipe can provide.
