October 2010 - What are you smoking?

Thanks Krgulick. It's a large Pipe and will take awhile to color. For now, it's London Mixture in the Koncak Faux Spigot. Best to all. http://pipesmagazine.com/members/fred/album/picture/1038

Online Groups (besides this prestigious one)

I admit that I'm not real active on Facebook. Between keeping up with the All Things Meerschaum Group on Smoker's Forum and this place, a lot of my time is taken up. Since Kevin encouraged me to write some articles, this has been another time trap. That leaves little time for much else...

Opinions Needed on New Important Article Series

Serious and objective perspectives would be best to attract and maintain interest both inside and outside of the Pipe community. It has the refreshing prospect of clarity of thought in a world where news broadcasters and writers seek persona status, while reporting becomes secondary. What...

    Coloring Meerschaum Pipes by Machinery

Here's an interesting old article from the New York Times... Even back then, there was the lament of things lost. http://query.nytimes.com/mem/archive-free/pdf?res=F50B1EF9355517738DDDAD0A94DA415B818DF1D3

How much tobacco do you buy?

Over the past few years, I've ordered frequently in order to feed the cellar..., which is currently up to 99.4 kilos. Lately, I've cut back on ordering blends but still will pick up a new issue, just out of curiosity.

    Tricks for cleaning mouthpiece

Clean up for the Vulcanite, Acrylic, Ebonite, Bakelite and Amberoid bits on my Pipes is done with a shank brush, Everclear and Pipe cleaners. I don't have a buffer, but a good bit polish will produce excellent results. For the light colored bits that show a smoke stain in the bit's draft...

    Pipemen and Integrity

Over the years, I've sent my Meerschaums to Floyd Norwood for repair. His work is high quality, fast turnaround and very reasonably priced. I send him the Pipe(s) and he returns them with the repairs accomplished, usually with a 7 day turnaround, and the bill is in the package with the...

Thanks guys. The bit is a two piece acrylic military mount that uses a derlin push/pull connector. Amber runs $100 per inch and is difficult to maintain. I know that it is highly prized, but for me it is uncomfortable and no one I know will repair it.

    Cork knocker

I avoid using them, preferring to dig the ash out with a Pipe tool. Pipe repair guys love it when you snap the tenon of the bit off in the shank.

http://pipesmagazine.com/members/fred/album/picture/1054 Yesterday, the postman left an attempt to deliver notification, as I wasn't home to sign for the package. I retrieved it from the Post Office today and have cleaned the dust out of it. After I'm finished looking at it, I'll fire it...
