    Aged tobacco

End Scene... +1 cortez The key truly is to forget about it. Tampering with your aged blends is never a good idea until you are ready to smoke them. By the way, the original tin is preferable to a mason jar as long as the seal is not compromised. (Bulks will obviously require the use of a mason...

    Trying new tobacco

See, I would recommend a Balkan to a new pipe smoker because its a surefire way to see if you like latakia or if you don't. When I first started I was pussyfooting around with lighter English blends when what I really wanted was a stronger latakia experience. (Also, since the chap is on a budget...

    Virginias - Loose Cut

I second cigrmaster. If the reason you are seeking out loose cut is because of poor experiences with flake tobacco, then give the cubes a try! I've seen the light...

Just TAD of Plug and Flake

I'd like to hear an update on the Wessex Golden Brick if you don't mind. I'm looking forward to hearing some opinions on that. It is the only mild-medium strength plug I've ever heard of.

    Trying new tobacco

You are better off not letting it dry out in the first place, because the rehydrated tobacco is never quite as good as the fresh stuff. It may be just the ticket, though, give it a try and see if its an improvement to you... (You also don't want to let it rehydrate too much because then you'd...

    Trying new tobacco

I'd take them out of the plastic bags because you don't know what's on them; the inside of the jars is a pretty clean environment so adding the plastic strikes me as unnecessary. Yes, keep your mason jars out of the sunlight. Keep them in darkness and away from temperature extremes and...

    Germain Medium Flake

Has anyone tried Germain Medium Flake? I've read mixed reviews and I was just wondering if anyone here on PM had experience with it or if they had any especially strong feelings to share about the blend... Thanks!

    Trying new tobacco

1Q Orlik Golden Sliced Escudo PS Balkan Supreme PA/CH/SWR or a C&D burley or MacBaren Burley London Blend Something like that would cost you around $40-50+shipping and let you know right off the bat where you stand with each style. Just because you liked/didn't like one wouldn't mean that...

    Trying new tobacco

Peter Stokkebye bulks are probably the best value on the market. They sell a wide variety of tobacco. PS Balkan Supreme would be a great intro to latakia while PS Nougat is their best selling aro. Their Virginia tobaccos are also quite popular but they are often out of stock as a result...

Resting a pipe: 4 days or more?

I say this every time but cobs are probably the best workhorses out there. If more briars are not in your immediate future, then throwing a few cobs into the mix for those moments when you don't "need" a specific pipe is an ideal and affordable solution... (I prefer Country Gentlemen for the...

    Trying new tobacco

Are you interested in exploring the variety of tobaccos available at this time or do you just want to get a couple of aromatics and call it a day? It may sound funny but like everything else in life it doesn't hurt to have a plan. By narrowing your focus, you can make the best choices for your...

    Trying new tobacco

If you live in the US, then pipe tobacco is a VERY cheap indulgence... OTC blends are likely under five dollars a pouch, and by scrimping and saving $50-60 then you can place an online order which will provide you with a fair amount of quality bulk OR 4-5 "top of the line" tinned tobaccos that...

Resting a pipe: 4 days or more?

Experience trumps theory in this case, since most of the "rules of thumb" regarding pipe rest are pure conjecture anyway. Err on the side of caution and give your briars a little more rest based on your observations. It looks like you have an excuse to expand your collection! ;)

    Shawn622 Best Brown Flake

Congratulations shawn, it looks like you've done some great work. Keep at it! A lot of guys think and talk about making their own pipe tobacco, but you walk the walk. Best of luck with your new press and any other equipment that you accumulate.

    Looking for some strong tobaccos

Baron I winced when I read that! Very apt description... That kind of thing is why I'm slow to try these strong blends - my recent experiences with chew also have me a little sheepish!

    Oral Biopsy came back Negative!

Excellent news, fisher! You should definitely go out and celebrate if at all possible. Treat yourself, brother!

    Looking for some strong tobaccos

1792 and Haddo's are the main ones that call out to me, but I've been too much of a coward to take the plunge...

Things you hate about smoking pipe

Some days I pack a great blend in a well seasoned pipe and the smoke just sucks. For whatever reason, my tastes are off or I liked the idea of smoking a pipe more than I wanted to smoke my pipe. Those days are bad days...

    Self-Imposed Exile. Need advice...

I agree with the others. Keep your pipes/tobaccos at a constant temperature. Unless your collection is monstrous you shouldn't need to take up too much space...

Red Man Plug and the Power of Chew

No sir, I suspect it'd take quite awhile to dry out! Supposedly in the old days people would chew the tobacco, dry it out, and then smoke it but I'm not that hard up. I was still feeling off so I took a little pinch to tide me over. I'm going to try abstinence again tomorrow...
