Would McClelland Sell Their Recipes and Methods?

Wait until the mcneil's estate sells the name to Sutliff and they reintroduce "McClelland 5100" and the young hipsters go gaga over it. It's just a matter of time. But maybe I'm just bitter over the current "Balkan Sobranie"

Altinay & Altinok Expensive For Meerschaum?

    Did somebody say Yanik?

Altinay & Altinok Expensive For Meerschaum?

My Bekler claw absolutely reeks of Butera Sweet Cavendish when it's warm. Unfortunately I've only got one tin left, fortunately it's pretty much fully colored by now so it's basically retired. At some point I'll pop my last tin and retire it for good.

    Good Smoking Calabash!

An estate Pioneer calabash is a good smoker. Yeah you probably will have to clean out the insides, I just use a spoon and scrape out what gunk I can, then take an M16 toothbrush and some vodka to get the rest. I've never had to soak a gourd (beware that they get soft when wet) but I've never...

    Me and Virginia Tobacco

That's just the way Mac Baren tobaccos are. The only one I really like is their Navy Flake but even with that one there are a lot of better alternatives, the rest of Mac Baren's lineup ranges from smoking a hornets nest to tobacco-shaped dreck. As mentioned above Capstan and Hamborger...

    Bacca Left in Bowl

As others have said, some is normal. The amount of dottle I have is heavily dependent on the ambient humidity, in winter I have almost none, in summer here in Houston it can be quite a bit. Cavendish blends tend to leave more dottle. Gourd calabash pipes will always smoke to the bottom for me...

Long Term Storage of Bulk Aromatics?

I don't smoke too many aromatics but a few days ago I popped a late 80's production square tin of Dunhill Ready Rubbed (lightly aromatic cavendish). The tin was still airtight, the contents were still on the verge of being too moist, and even after 30 years it tasted almost exactly like I...

    Archetypical Blends?

Archetypal Balkans: Balkan Sasieni, McConnell Oriental Square, L.J. Peretti Royal. nu-Balkan Sobranie, Penzance, and Dunhill Durbar don't make the cut due to lack of availability. Archetypal Orientals: McConnell Oriental, Robt Lewis Orcilla Mixture, L. J. Peretti Tashkent. Honorable...

***What Are You Smoking, April 2021?***

Just finished a bowl of a Peretti mix in a horn-stemmed Bekler/Butera meeschaum. 2 Royal : 2 Taskent : 1 Oriental#40 : 1 Omega. I'm about to have to rebalance my Peretti stash to optimize my capacity for this.

Too Many Blends, But Too Few Producers?

A lot of things have changed, and while there do seem to be fewer players the actual selection - both in blends and manufacturers available for purchase - doesn't seem to have gone down that much in the last 30 years. The internet has vastly increased the tobaccos I can actually purchase, the...

    Ikea Jars

That's easy. Faltvaads are for VaPers unless they also have DFK in them in which case you want to use a Kreulzbleurg. If it's an aromatic then it absolutely should be stored in a Glorfnab, unless it's an aromatic english in which case you want a Kreulzbleurg again. Balkans can safely be...
