    Favorite Bourbon Whiskey?

I have to say that Jim Beam is my choice, but then again, it is all I have tried. I think that my choices are limited here in Kenya. I have other options, but the Beam is the most affordable.

This Pipe Is More Unusual Than Most

I don't think it would be anything more that a paperweight for me. Too weird.

    What are You Reading?

I am currently reading "From Eternity to Here" by Frank Viola, Tolstoy's "Anna Karenina" (having a slow go with this one), and Francis Chan's "Crazy Love". Not sure which classic book I will do next, but thinking about a Holmes book that I can smoke a few bowls of Sherlock while reading.

    Could Not Relight

Good tips. I had my best smoke with a pipe last week. I was tamping as I smoked, but I never poured out the top ash. Then again, I didn't have any problem with lighting or re-lighting. I will keep it in mind if I have that problem in the future.

    Tamper Exchange

Another question about the materials I am seeing: Are those bullet casings I am seeing? I would be interested, but I am not there with the posts yet. :crying:

    Can Smoking Make Me Sick?

I agree with ravkesef about the the sugar intake. I will take a spoonful of glucose if there is a chance that I might feel sick during a smoke. I have had my share of shakes, sweats, nausea and the runs. Haven't puked yet, but there's always a first time for everything for everyone. :?

    New guy needs advice

Thanks guys. I appreciate the help. It is one thing for someone to say what they recommend, but something else when they back it up with good reasons. I have seen some posts (but not read yet) about blending tobaccos. Is it a good idea to blend aromatics and non-aromatics (sorry don't know if...

    New Members, Introduce Yourself!

I am an occasional pipe and cigar smoker. My situation really doesn't allow for anything more. I work for an organization in Kenya that takes care of abandoned and orphaned children. I would like to gain a deeper understanding of pipes and maybe what kind of briars I own. I am going to try...

    New guy needs advice

Can I ask why it is that people do not recommend aromatics? I know that there is a lot of personal preference, but I am still trying to find out what exactly the differences are, where tastes come in and how to identify tastes (something I haven't been able to figure out in my limited experience.)

    Why Did You Start?

I got my start three years ago. I had a friend who brought me a pipe and some tobacco. I don't smoke regularly, but I do enjoy it. Like many others, my grandfather smoked a pipe. I have often thought about trying to find his, but I am not even sure they are still around. I smoke occasional...

    Tamper tool cleaning

True. However, I'm in Kenya, and don't have access to a supplier. I will probably get a couple when I am back in Canada, but that won't be until either March, or September (Long story as to why).

    Tamper tool cleaning

I'm not sure what my issue is. I tried cleaning the tool last week. For the most part the tamper is clean. A few spots here and there. The spoon, however, is a different story. Only about half of it got clean. The top (end) of the spoon is still caked with stuff. It is very crusty, and...

    Question about the website

Has anyone else had trouble lately getting on the website? More than a few times over this week I have had a screen coming up for a Redhat Linux Test Screen. It is from something like Apache. Any thoughts?

    Tamper tool cleaning

I have a cheapo tamper set (tamper, spoon, poker) that is in need of cleaning. Any suggestions?

    Newbie question about tobaccos

Hi all, I am not an avid smoker. It is more of a social thing for me. I would like some direction regarding tobaccos, and what the different "kinds" are (aromatic and such). I have a number of tobaccos. They are "honey maple", "lamplighter", "sherlock", "midnight" (all from Tinder Box)...

    Where is the flavor?

Hey all! Thanks for the tip on drying tobacco first. On my next smoke, I will definitely try that. How long is recommended for the drying time? I think I saw 1/2 hour above. Usually I just pack my pipe straight from the bag.
