What Pipe tops Your PAD List Right Now?

Although I do have sufficient self discipline at the moment, I could easily share the PAD of @Carolinachurchwarden's two straight pipes mentioned above. Since these small Barlings are too rare to be found unsmoked, I would probably just buy a similar brand new Dunhill and start looking around...

    Winslow pipes

Like cigrmaster I have had several Winslows of various grades. Mine were/are size 2 to 4, mostly classsic styles and I still have a few left that I cannot part with. Almost everything about them is perfect: design (subjective), grain, drilling, finish, smokability and stemwork. The only...

What Pipe Brand Most Consistently Makes a Great Smoking Pipe?

Only 1 out of 10 Sixten Ivarsson pipes is a dud, I heard, I think.

A Change Of Focus... And More Enjoyment (Warning! Long Post)

Interesting topic and comments. I think it is a question of finding a good balance. PAD can perhaps for some end up like when you get too obsessed with constantly upgrading your hifi gear. After some time you may risk listening more to the hifi gear (pipes) than enjoying the music (tobacco).

More on Craig Era Ashtons:First smokes and First Impressions

@Paul, I am sure I would share your disappointment with the bites, since these Ashtons are otherwise very attractive. According to my first 'pipe teacher', Olrik, whose pipe book I read many years ago and still go back to (a gift from my mother 35 years ago), a perfect bite height, for most of...

    No Nicotine, No Problem

I admire you MSO, for keeping up the mood during the needed abstinence. It seems from various threads, that several other members here are good at frequent abstinence from smoking. During the day and during the week. What self discipline! Wish I could also enjoy tobacco, the same way as I...

Which Tobacco You Don't Have Is At The Top Of Your "MUST TRY NEXT" Want List ?

C&D, GLP, McClelland (I know..), Peretti and even locally made Doblone d'Oro. But none of these have been or are available at B&M’s here in DK or neighbour German cities, as far as I know. Hopefully I will visit USA again. Last time was a biz trip and in my spare time I only visited an...

Anyone Ever Smoke a Cigar in a Pipe?

Since no pipe tobacco in the house these days and left in the cellar is only a 50 pcs box of Villiger Sumatra cigarillos, I soon began to miss my pipes... These are my findings, after having today smoked 3 bowls of cigarillos in a small cob and in a small old Pibe-Dan briar chimney: No need to...

    Dunhill Pipes Are Overrated

Whether it is called White Spot or Black Spit, I couldn't care. If only all the other English top factories had continued to make quality pipes in England, then there would be more alternatives to White Spot . Pipes with the names of once proud Comoy's, Orlik, BBB etc. of today are laughable...

    Poul Winslow grading question

I also have an early classic ungraded Winslow billiard, which I found as nice as my grade D one. I simply asked the man himself via their homepage. He confirmed my ungraded was a D :-) Not that it matters much, since the pipe speaks for itself but guess you understand :puffpipe:

Have all of you (or almost all) started on cheap aros?

Capstan, Three Nuns etc. are the tobaccos I started with, since I was lucky to be introduced to quality, when I started pipe smoking 35+ years ago. Tobacco ads then were mostly for mainstream OTC's and were tempting many, but even students could afford quality pipe tobaccos, as pipe tobacco...

    The End of American Sedans

For us here in Denmark it is the Beginning of American Sedans. The Tesla model 3 is finally coming to us now. The model S has been here for a while but it is very expensive for most, although you get more bang for the buck, due to lower taxes on the less polluting/electric cars. I have had many...

    Mind Experiment on Dunhill Prices

Yes, with my preference for traditional shapes and comfy vulcanite stems, I would be very tempted to buy several discounted Dunhill pipes asap, before they closed production in England or started only offering acrylic stems, like most pipe factories did in Denmark, before they gave up.

Still Have Your First Pipe? Why or Why Not?

Unfortunately I do not recall anything about my first pipe. But I still have my first Meer Gourd Calabash, which I bought new, somewhere in Copenhagen around 1984, I think.... It was quite expensive then, that I remember and I was only a student, but I had a well paid spare time job for many...

    Dunhill Pipes... Worth the Money?

Cobs and Castello etc. instead of a Dunhill, come on... :-) We all have different tastes and preferences, so basically we can only disagree, whether you get full value if you buy pipe X from manufacturer Y. I will stop here. As my teenage son recently said to me: 'Dad, you do not need to have...
