    Peterson Questions

I've never owned a Peterson. I'm curious about quality issues, which seem to be connected to this thread. I read a few things online that suggested the quality of Peterson pipes had dropped considerably in a variety of ways, including fit and finish. I have no opinion at all on this, but am...

Interests Besides Pipes / Pipe Smoking?

I'm not a collector, either. I tend to keep a stable number of pipes that are organized by country of manufacture and make: 3 Dunhills, 7 Ashtons (at the moment 6, as there is an open spot on the Ashton rack), 3 Italians (Ascorti and Ardor). If I overflow the racks, I sell something. So I...

    What Colors are Your Pipes?

I'm similar with this. Black, for some reason, only seems to work on rough surfaces for me. I don't like smooth, black pipes.

    What Colors are Your Pipes?

Very impressive. If I tried to make a pipe, it would probably look like this, or much worse.

    What Colors are Your Pipes?

This is a beautiful pipe. I love the proportions grain, etc. Looking at this is a nice way to start the day! Thanks.

I love mine, too, for the most part. In fact, I chose it because of my interests so it certainly qualifies as an interest.

That is a good point. The discussion quickly drifted into hobbies, but "other interests" do not necessarily mean hobbies. Thus, work could be included here, too.

    What Colors are Your Pipes?

EDIT: Fixed Capitalization in Title - Bob As I smoked this evening, I was looking at my collection and it hit me that I have a strong preference for pipes that are stained some hue of red. I have other colors, but red really dominates. I'm wondering what the color preferences of others here...

Interests Besides Pipes / Pipe Smoking?

Well, the problem is that for me when reading for fun, I start feeling guilty because I'm not using that reading time for academic reading. It never ends... Fortunately, I often enjoy the academic reading, although I like writing a lot more than reading.

As the evening winds down, I decided to begin breaking in my new Ashton Canadian with some Ashton Consummate Gentleman.

Interests Besides Pipes / Pipe Smoking?

Reading is definitely not a hobby for me. I do read for fun, to some extent, but my work involves a great deal of reading, so it's really work for me.

Interests Besides Pipes / Pipe Smoking?

The time does go by quickly. It seems like yesterday that my son (in grad school) was a toddler. Unfortunately for my daughter, her parents are both perfectionists (although I am more relaxed than my wife), so she got the gene. Our son got it, too. The ages from about 5 - 10 are a lot of...

Interests Besides Pipes / Pipe Smoking?

How old are your kids? I suppose that is my other hobby. I have one in graduate school and the other is in 8th grade. Much of my time is devoted to taking the 8th grader to endless activities and helping her through all of the angst she has about life. She's the sort for whom a 99 is a...

Interests Besides Pipes / Pipe Smoking?

I'm quite involved with music. I'm a jazz drummer and have my own trio, as well as playing in another trio. We gig a lot and it is serious enough of a "hobby" that we produced a CD. Since I make money playing, I suppose it's not exactly a hobby, but it certainly is not my day job. I'm also...

Ashton Artisan Blend in Mastro Geppetto bent rusticated Rhodesian, or at least that's what they called it when I bought it. Feels and looks more like an apple, but does have a very mild ridge around the bowl.

Talk to Me About Wrist Watches

I enjoy watches for the same reason I enjoy pipes--they are things of craftsmanship and beauty if you get good ones. I own several watches. Lately I have been wearing my Bell & Ross GMT watch. It is beautiful and can keep time for three time zones. GMT watches have a second hour hand and a...
