Coloring Progress Over Time/No of Bowls in one Meerschaum Pipe

I think I’ll save my pipes and reserve my coloring experiments to some meerschaum cigarette holders.

    Peterson P-lip Replacement Stem

Oh I see now, yeah all of them are vulcanite darn. Oh well more for me ;) I like that with a p-lip I can clench with my front teeth without the pipe bouncing around.

    Peterson P-lip Replacement Stem

There’s a few p-lips in the rough on eBay but they don’t have a P. Is your Peterson System an army mount? I’m having Briarville put a p-lip on one of my (not Peterson) pipes now. n.n. Starting at $33 bucks on his site.

You think a van cleef aesthetic could be done using black beeswax?

Found this last night, Anyone got some spermacetti? Also this: How to make powdered meers and a bit in professional meerschaum colorers. I like the mention of how the Italian meerschaum bricks float on water.

    Know anything about this lad?

I’m going to go have a look on google books for early reference to coloring bowls. I’m not interested in them for their alleged intentions or to know them by their fruits but honestly I see it as a simple filter that would keep the host pipe clean or at least uniform in shade.

Coloring Progress Over Time/No of Bowls in one Meerschaum Pipe

If you wipe off an estate meer with an alcohol wipe and it looks darker afterwards, would you assume you merely removed an obscuring layer of dust and grime? I’ve observed this a few times.

Funny you mentioned that, my other meerschaums float this one sinks like a rock. Don’t ask me how I know.

Makes sense, I think the rim is only darkening from the matches anyways.

SP? EDIT: oh smokingpipes I propose an improved model, one of these with a coloring bowl. No but seriously I’m looking for any excuse now, really grasping. ;)

Coloring Progress Over Time/No of Bowls in one Meerschaum Pipe

I see, speaking of pre-coloring This is my Kiko I believe was “calcined?” 20-30 bowls of black cav on top of a meerschaum button which turned completely black and condensates still.

How are these deep reds achieved? Shellac?

Hi, I am new to this forum and new to collecting. I’m working on a nice herd (mob? Pack?) of meers and am thinking of a custom cutty/Zulu now. Aside from that, I came across this image looking at old pipes. What is doughboy puffing on in his bomber coat. I can’t tell if it is a one piece...
