    The Virtue of Dry?

Even though I will NOT ask, I am intrigued that your doctor gave you emphatic blessings to resume indulging in pipe tobacco!!!! Seems like a wonderful fellow to me. 🙂

If Nasal Snuff Is Still Here

Harrumph! It is quite a bit harder to find Sir Walter Raleigh and Prince Albert these days, so us “codgers” are feeling the pinch too. (Note…. the rancor is meant tongue-in-cheek…. but it is sadly reality too…. drugstore brands are definitely harder to get….. at least in my region.)

    Lighters vs Matches

While I do agree that the spout on the “Fauxpont” can be useful and helpful, I would also say that a traditional BIC can and does a fine job….. and you do not have to worry about burning your thumb…. if you hold the lighter pointing downward IF you have your thumb on the trigger and have it...

    Iwan Ries and Milan Tobacconists

Oh! Iwan Ries “Three Star Blue” would be a horrible loss! I hope it does not come to pass.

    Cob>Briar

They have after market COB bowls for falcons??? I am surprised…. it would seem difficult to carve or lathe(?) a piece of cob to fit the relatively precise tolerances needed for a Falcon. Do you have any photos of a cob aftermarket bowl for a Falcon? It would be interesting to see the base and...

    Cob>Briar

That is very interesting to see there are after market Meerschaum bowls for Falcons etc. the tall bowls…. am I presuming correctly they likewise hold a larger volume of tobacco than the standard sized bowls? I greatly appreciate the beauty of a Meerschaum pipe, but I only have one Meerschaum...

    Cob>Briar

I have a preponderance of briar pipes and only a small number of cobs. My preference is for briar pipes…..because for me they feel/seem more durable. I also tend to get what I consider a more “tobacco” flavor from the briars. Cons are fine, but for me, even the best cob has occasionally had a...

    The Origin of Pipe Shapes

Chasing Embers…. I did not mean my comment to make you feel sad. It is a very unique pipe and the craftsmanship is very obvious. It just HAS that kind of “sperm shape”. Perhaps it is just the biologist in me that made me notice it. I did not mean the comment negatively…. just obsevationally.

    The Origin of Pipe Shapes

That is an interesting shape indeed. Sort of looks like a sperm cell that we would look at under the microscope (our high school had mouse sperm slides bought from a biology supply company). 😂

    What Defines a Codger?

Hmm. I always felt that my nose hairs blended nicely into my mustache. It gives my mustache more fullness. Ear hair, however is more of a hassle because it feels itchy. 😂

    Perdomo Habano

I just returned from an afternoon at a cigar lounge, and I thought I would look up what I indulged in in the search engine here to see what fellow pipe smokers have had to say about it. Either no one has tried it yet, or I am not using our search engine successfully, because I could not find...

    Newby Needing Help: Pipe ID.

I would suggest the first thing before you even think about rehydrating any…. would be to try a bowl “as is”. You may find that dryness level to be absolutely beautiful. You can always rehydrate JUDICIOUSLY, with a SMALL sprinkle of water, or whisky, or bourbon, or vodka….. but it may not be...

    “Drew Estate Cigars”

I am trying to find the wrapper, which must list the specific on I had. I only saw the one style at the shop. If I cannot find it, I will look next week for the specific type. The band, which I still have, does not say anything specific.

    “Drew Estate Cigars”

I would be interested in hearing the thoughts of anyone here who may have indulged in a Drew Estate cigar. Even though I am primarily a pipe smoker, for the past few months I have bee going to a weekly “meet-and- greet” at a cigar shop. It has been a helluva lot of fun and with no close pipe...

    Pipe Hobby Waxing and Waning

I do not recall any posts that “codgers” have made disparaging folks who smoke less frequently nor infrequently. I do sometimes see “codgers” discussed in a tongue-in-cheek, humorous fashion which is also fine, but I do not think it is a positive thing to portray “codgers” in a negative light...

    Pipe Hobby Waxing and Waning

Perhaps we should excise the term “hobbyist pipe smoker” and change it to “intramural pipe smoker” instead? It works for athletics in college. You have the school’s “pro” athletes and a lot of groups of “intramural athletes”. 😉

    Pipe Hobby Waxing and Waning

For me, a pipe has been the instrument of choice for tobacco since starting in the late 70s. Of course I tried other forms of tobacco consumption, but none seemed as good in my opinion. Probably consumed less than 1/2 of one pack of cigarettes all that time. Nasal snuff….. tried once, did not...

Years of Pipe Smoking vs. Pipe + Tobacco Count

    Domestic Flights with Pipe.

Yes, even though lighters with a “soft” flame are “allowed”, I never take any lighter I care about. I always take just a plain, old Bic…… because on the chance you find a more “robust” confiscater you will not be out anything too valuable.
