Restoring Metal Falcon, Viking, and Unbranded Pipes

There is this coating they use for Harley exhaust pipes. You can pour it in and turn the pipes until thoroughly coated then dump excess back into container. I believe its ceramic. Then you can either install and run the pipes or put them in an oven. But this stuff is pretty thick so it'd...

Restoring Metal Falcon, Viking, and Unbranded Pipes

Yeah I meant metal. I figure most the knockoffs are pot metal, maybe aluminum. But pot metal can be polished to a degree. That's why I was considering just painting them. Yeah the metals that will tarnish over time if they're not sealed. Even wax is better than nothing. Just some clear or we...

Restoring Metal Falcon, Viking, and Unbranded Pipes

Just pay attention. Any paint will eventually dry out. My dad used to let the thinner set on top to prevent air from drying the paint. When he needed to use it he just shook it till mixed. He did this with old oil house paint too.

Restoring Metal Falcon, Viking, and Unbranded Pipes

I forgot about testors paint. I use it on the models I build once in awhile. Never used the chrome. I have researched some high temp paint. Haven't seen any in chrome. I think I'm going to just paint one of them and put it on eBay. I'll paint one of mine first and smoke it to see how it holds...

    Underrated Factory Pipes / Brands

I have a Mr. Brog. I've yet to be able to smoke from it. It won't stay lit. Only smoke I get from it is when trying to light it. To me the stem looks unfinished. The hole near the tip isn't flared. That wouldn't explain why it won't stay lit. I tried 3-4 different tobaccos. Even dried it for...

    Underrated Factory Pipes / Brands

Thought I started at the beginning, but apparently I started on PG 2. So didn't see criteria as new pipes. Now I've read PG 1. I have several new pipes. Not sure if it counts, but I have an unsmoked NOS Kaywoodie. Not one of those $100 deals on eBay. I got it for $40. Yes!!! I smoked it. It's...

    Underrated Factory Pipes / Brands

I have a black rusticated Wessex. Its my favorite pipe. Shaped sort of like a Calabash. Not with the over hang. It just flares toward the top. Its a bent as well. Trying to keep track of the shape names but some look similar.

Restoring Metal Falcon, Viking, and Unbranded Pipes

Where do we post restorations? I saw where you post pictures of pipes. My thinking was pipe repair and maintenance. But thought that it may be under a different forum heading. I also saw posts about restoration posts, but didn't see any place specific. Thanks

    Who Made That Pipe Book

Is this book still useful? When trying to research some pipe brands, I hit a wall. Sometimes there would be just a picture, no information at all. Other times, absolutely nothing. But it might not be in the book either. I figure by now someone has put that information online. Maybe not. If...

Restoring Metal Falcon, Viking, and Unbranded Pipes

Yeah I thought about that. They also have a ceramic coating they put on guns that should work. I have several metal brands and unbranded I bought in lots. I'm keeping 1, maybe 2. The rest I'm reselling after cleaning and restoration. I don't mind spending a little more on what I'll keep. What...

Restoring Metal Falcon, Viking, and Unbranded Pipes

Yeah the Falcons are aluminum so they can actually be polished, or anodized. But some of the other brands just used steel, pot metal(?), cast metal(?), plastic/nylon. Basically cheap metal with chrome. Now the chrome is gone so all that's left is a dull grey metal, or brown plastic. I've seen...

    Who Made That Pipe Book

Has anyone considered what it would take to reprint this book? If its in public domain it can be copied. Not sure if it can be sold. I'd love to get a copy. I have a couple of art books that were reprints. Had great information about how to draw certain things. Can't remember the author at the...

Restoring Metal Falcon, Viking, and Unbranded Pipes

The aluminum pipes are easy enough to understand. Just polish it after the normal cleaning and sanitizing. The ones I need to know about are the chromed ones. How do you deal with the chipped chrome? I was thinking about sanding it down, or stripping the chrome off, and painting them, or...

Was There Ever a Grabow Meerschaum?

Before coming here to ask a question, I always Google what I'm looking for. I try several different ways to word it. Many times this place is always listed. Sometimes though I don't see what I'm looking for. There was several posts about Grabows, but didn't find anything about meerschaum...

Was There Ever a Grabow Meerschaum?

Thanks for the info. I know about pipephil and pipedia, is there another place to research pipes? These places are great resources, but on some pipes they either have very little, just pictures, or nothing. I got lucky on a website about Kaywoodies, I downloaded a pamphlet about them. It was...

Was There Ever a Grabow Meerschaum?

Yeah seen lots of those. Think I bought one.

Was There Ever a Grabow Meerschaum?

They look like they're 12"-18" long. I thought it was just a stem swap. I might buy it to snag the stem for my pipe. Its not a very good carving.

Was There Ever a Grabow Meerschaum?

I watch him! I love cop shows and mysteries. You have no idea how many times I've watched Columbo.

Was There Ever a Grabow Meerschaum?

I saw a meer with a Grabow military type stem, with a white spade. The bowl is octagonal shaped. The corners are short, the front and back is a little longer, then the sides are longest. But its all crooked. Definitely not a perfect octagon. Thanks

    Underrated Factory Pipes / Brands

Did Dr Grabow or one of their many owners and subsidiary brands ever make a meerschaum pipe? I saw a meer with a military Grabow stem. It had the white spade on the stem. I know they made pipes with these stems, I have 2. 1 needs a stem. The shape of the pipe is like an octagon. The corners...
