Im a HUGE stout fan... pretty much all I drink is stouts and whiskey :D I have a local brewery called ROK House, that the wife and I frequent (a bit too much I think) where I can relax with a nice Imperial Stout and a pipe. Rok House Brewery - Sköl Krusher Russian Imperial Stout Rok House...

Zippo Pipe Lighters and Pipe Wall Integrity

Might be that they were using a zippo with a regular inside case as opposed to a pipe insert, that on top of the fact that they probably would rest the lighter on the bowl edge as opposed to keeping it off of the pipe and more in the center of the bowl. I used to use a zippo as my main lighter...

    When does it become relaxing?

Not much more I can contribute as everyone has made some very solid recommendations... but one stands out above the rest to me. Tuold hit the nail on the head... The pipe and tobacco are just tools to help you get to that "relaxation" point... but its most definitely not the source. I cannot...

    Laquer Coming Off

Not if done right, if you sand to a nice high grit, say 1000 grit, and take your time you will get rid of all those small imperfections... but again, you have to be patient and do things the right way... not so "vigorous" Man those look 100% better than the blistered picture lol Personally I...

    Laquer Coming Off

@ Tuold... well as you mentioned you just did a couple of wipes... when you wiped it down with the acetone it appears (in both finished photo's) that you didn't take the lacquer completely off, I can see the spider webbing on the finish under the wax... they may not be noticeable to most, but...

    Laquer Coming Off

Acetone will certainly take off the lacquer, but it will also take off the finish, so no matter of he uses acetone or sandpaper, the finish is screwed... at this point its best (imo) to sand it down to wood and start the finishing process again but finish it with wax instead of lacquer.

    Laquer Coming Off

I would agree with Cortez... I think your smoking too hot and the lacquer is burning off... I too am not a fan of lacquer finishes on pipes. I say sand it off and wax it with some nice Carnauba wax and you'll be solid. Oh and welcome to the forums.

Where do you keep your tobacco?

Mason jars and more mason jars... all kept in a cabinet away from light and heat. I usually keep a jar of Nightcap, Shortcut to mushrooms and whatever else I decide to open for my daily smokes. so usually I have 3-4 jars of tobacco that remain out throughout the house.

What Do You Enjoy Most About This Hobby

I enjoy first and foremost the tobacco... I like the different flavors of different mixtures. but I also love the look and feel of a pipe (being a woodworker) I appreciate the different styles and feels of pipes. and last but not least I enjoy the ritual of laying out the tobacco figuring out...
