    How Cold Is Too Cold?

Cold weather is why God invented wolverines, lynx and wolves. I know of nothing man-made that'll keep the cold out like natural fur. Fur clothing might be heaver but, it's damned warm.

    Cob>Briar

You'll have to figure that out for yourself. You made personal choice, none of my business. I smoke with both and do make class distinctions as you seem to want to do. Inse4cutiry in your choice? You don't to anyone to justify your choices. Just enjoy your wee vice.

    Picking on Brits a Bit

But, the land was collapsed and is much safer. It's really no different than building on the Mississippi flood plain, in hurricane zones, wildfire areas, etc. Buildings are now built to higher standards and certain areas are restricted as to size or use. Earthquakes! Just another of life's...

    Picking on Brits a Bit

Alaska is the US hot spot. California is certainly up there though and , as far as major damage, has a larger population and may more built up areas so, if/when they ever get a major quake it could be catastrophic.

    Pearl Harbor Day

I didn't see a mention in any of the main stream media, including Fox. But, I'd bet there are still services on the hulk of the Arizona.

    Pearl Harbor Day

America attacked, declared war on Japan, followed by Hitler declaring war on the US. The three Axis countries sign their death warrant. We should always remember.

    Picking on Brits a Bit

As a matter of routine? That's true. I you grew up in the Catholic Church then Latin was spoken and well understood by more than a few parishioners. Never spoken in the US? Simply too general a statement in my opinion.

    19th century pipes

The movie was a compendium of two books from the series. The author wrote for an audience folks who had interests in the Napoleonic wars, maritime history and such. The audience was/is vast. I've read the entire series, thoroughly enjoying the growth of the two protagonists from start to...

    Picking on Brits a Bit

But, but, but ... Foster's is Australian. I'm not a fan, my taste run to Guinness, the "black stuff."

    Remember The Days..

Shane MacGowan! He did some stuff I loved and he could put out some crap. But, a fascinating man always.

What are You Watching? [2024] Please Rate 1-5

The Last Rifleman starring Pierce Brosnan in one of his best roles. At least I think so. Worth the time on Prime. He plays a 93 year old WWII vet trying to get to France for DDay celebrations with his mates, damned convincingly.

Would you keep an ugly pipe that smokes really well?

Just because I can I'll reiterate my criteria for purchasing a pipe. First it must catch my eye as I scan displays in shops. A pipe which isn't bent to some degree will never stop my eye. Then it has to fit my fist, comfortably. I examine the fit and finish for anomalies. Everything must...

Would you keep an ugly pipe that smokes really well?

Into the trash bid they go. I'm certainly not going to the trouble of posting, packaging and then take 'em to the post office. But, you knew that.

Would you keep an ugly pipe that smokes really well?

A pipe must attract my eye whole on display in a shop. So, I wouldn't own any pipe I consider ugly. To answer, the question on your post, no. I trash pipes that do not perform satisfactorily.

    Thoughts On STG

To me it's black and white, no equivocating or philosophizing. One either works ethically or not. Situational ethics are anathema to me. You and I simply see work differently. There is nothing you could write that would change how I work. Take the money. do the work as best you can. To do...

Then you must grant that the boss is entitled to can you if he chooses if your "approach" doesn't match his/her standards. You feel a job is all about you and your feelings. I feel just the opposite, the employer sets the standards, not the employee.

I don't believe that for a minute. Wow! Entitlements? Hell, one isn't even entitled to a job. You should work at a level at least minimally acceptable to your employer or be terminated, quickly.

    Thoughts On STG

I need to feel I've earned what I'm paid. I "ride for the brand" as it were. If I take a man's money, he gets my best. That's how I was raised. What a convoluted thread. Very entertaining though even the posts where the members have stayed on topic. rotf

    Thoughts On STG

You could risk some of your moneys, start a business and employ people if that's your big concern. You have to remember though, it's your money and you are taking all the risk. Do not forget to demand a day of hard work for a day's pay. It's only fair. Some members here though do not...

    Thoughts On STG

"Life's a bitch and then we die." Tobacco related businesses are not places to seek "job security." IT maybe. Plumbing sure. But, tobacco related? Not the best choice due to it's volatility.
