    Meerschaum Soaking Experiment

Another burn in 11th day. I took the meershaum piece out, torched it, and then throw it back into the glass once per day. The section turned white when I torched it directly, it's the same result as I did a week ago. Earlier today, one member in facebook pipe group post this picture. He broke...

    Sharing the Love?

I joined a local whisky lover group, introduced by a friend of mine 4 years ago. It's a 30 men group. We would met in a bar or a restaurant sharing our whisky. And I was the only one who smoke a pipe. One day I decided to bring my pipes to the party, 'cause I spent all my money on tobacco and...

    Drying flake tobacco

I kept many tins and fill them with my tobacco. They are easy to carry around. If you keep the tins covered, the tobacco can last a couple of days before dry out.

    Need some help, novice

It's important not to start with aromatics. The aromatics tasted good, but they can burn much hotter than other non-aromatic tobaccos. You would likely puff too frequently attempt to get more resembles flavor, but the more you puff, the less flavor you will experience. A bold blend is...

    Germain's RDF & Hampton

Just finished RDF & Hampton Flake in a row. First, RDF has a strong smell of plum which I'm very enjoy smelling it. One my friend in WI told me that he get a little bit of moldy hay smell from Hampton. I didn't get the moldy hay smell from Hampton, it's more like old bamboo soaked in whisky to...

    Meerschaum Soaking Experiment

I think you're correct. We have no doubt that meer can absorb water. Whenever I buy a brand new meer pipe, I would lick inside the pipe bowl. If it is made of block meerschaum, it can absorbs my saliva, making my tongue feel stuck. What if ashes and cakes block most of the porous, stopping the...

    Quality Of Meerschaum Pipe?

Yes. I told him about the porous. More porous means lighter weight and lower density. And he replied to me,"Don't you use modern standards to judge my 1800s meerschaum pipe. You've been brainwashed by the merchant's marketing rhetoric!" So, I decided not to respond to him anymore...

    Meerschaum Soaking Experiment

Easy to demonstrate you say. You must have missed all those comments about heat, hand dirt, smoking simulation stuff. You can show me how easy it is. Can't wait to see your demonstration.

    Meerschaum Soaking Experiment

Dude, the light switch is right there in the fridge. You can mock my curiosity. I could also reply that if meer is porous, then why the color of tar couldn't get into the internal of meer by simply soaking it into the tobacco water. It's elementary school physics knowledge.

    Meerschaum Soaking Experiment

Sorry for my bad English that might cause cofusions. I will try to describe my thoughts more accurate. I just read this from an article: "A meerschaum pipe colors by absorbing tar and other volatile organic compounds which are byproducts of tobacco combustion that gets deposited in the pores...

    Meerschaum Soaking Experiment

Yes. I might be wrong about the wax part. That's why I am doing this experiment. I am happy to see if I am wrong. Just shoot all your advices and comments. Smoke a meers until it colors takes too much time. I would give up halfway. I thought, if the meer gets its internal colored after...

    Meerschaum Soaking Experiment

Humm. What if I take the meer out and heat it directly with a torch lighter for 1 mins. Then put it back into the glass. It can simulate the pipe shank. Expect more like a speedrun! I can do it twice a day for a week.

    Meerschaum Soaking Experiment

This experiment is just for observation. I am not trying to start a debate. 'Cause I don't know the outcome neither. I just want your comments, maybe I missed something in this experiment.

    Meerschaum Soaking Experiment

Yes, I have been thinking should I mircowave the tobacco water first. Do I leave the meer in glass while heating process or not?

    Meerschaum Soaking Experiment

I am testing the absorbing properties of the meer. Trying to figure out the color of meer is form by absorbing tars or not. If the internal color of meer is still white after days of soaking into tobacco water, then it may confirm that the changes of exterior color is just the wax darkening.

    Meerschaum Soaking Experiment

I soaked my cracked meerschaum knurl in a glass of tobacco water yesterday.(I collect unburnt cigar butts.) I remember to put a lid on it. No visible change through 2 hours. After 7 hours. I broke it with a pair of pliers. I broke off a small piece for comparison. After 10 hours. As...

    Ordered Some Aromatics

I enjoy C&D's aromatics. Especially Autumn Evening, it's one of the few products that tastes as good as it smells.
