    Finally Learning Tobacco Distinctions

Nope, you're thinking a different blend, this is Astley's No. 88, "Matured Dark Virginia" then below it says "Full Virginia ready rubbed." And on the back of the tin it says "Deep flavoured black stoved Virginia, naturally fermented and matured."

Can You use Cigar Tobacco in a Pipe?

My first ever pipe experience was a Captain Black Sweet taken apart and put into a pipe, haha. Wasn't as good as the cigarillo itself . . .

    Finally Learning Tobacco Distinctions

At a very beginner level, that is. It's actually really exciting, until the past month or two, the tobaccos i've smoked have just been aro's or whatever mixtures of tobaccos to make a blend. I finally bought an English/Latakia mixture (Brebbia) a month or two ago and got my first taste of...

Glad I Can Smoke in My Den!!

It's called climate change, and its more real than ever :(

    Bit Guards?

I just started using them. I use one on my curved Brigham, nice for when i'm driving. I think i'll use one on my straight Graco IF i'm driving, otherwise i'd prefer to not have one, but cleanching hurts my teeth.

    Draft Hole Too Small

The draw seems fine to me still, like I said its still tight but at least I can get a cleaner all the way through it now.

Does Oxidation Occur on the Inside of the Stem?

I'm glad you asked, I was just wondering that a couple days ago when I boiled one of my stems and made it oxidize, it doesn't taste quite the same. I hope someone has a good answer, cause I'd really like to know too.

    Packing Problem

Hey man, you're a lot like myself, or how I was. I've been smoking very occasionally for a few years, and more regularly the last year. I have always sucked at packing a good bowl and finally the past several bowls have been a better success for me. I finally scrapped all the 'methods' and...

    Draft Hole Too Small

Yesterday I brought it to work, stuck the stem in a vice with (with vice guards) and drilled into it with the smallest bit we had. I've drilled thousands of holes with a drill, so I'm a bit experienced with doing it so I wasn't too scared. I think it was a 5/32, not even quite sure, but it...

    Eating My Own Words . . . H&H

I didn't have anything good to say about Half and Half last week when I first tried it, I didn't even finish the bowl I was really disappointed. Second bowl was a bit better. Third bowl I actually kind of enjoyed. Fourth I officially really like this tobacco. Its cheap, basic, may be poor...

    Latakia/English Blends Without Perique

I wouldn't say I hate perique, but I think I can detect it what i'm smoking and if I had the choice to remove it I think I would. Its got that peppery flavour i'm not real into. I haven't tried Nightcap though I have several on hand/on their way. If the perique is very noticeable in it its...

    Reshaping Stems

I wasn't smart and I just went ahead with it. I didn't end up bending the stem at all once I saw it was causing oxidation again. I'll try these methods next time, thanks guys.

    Reshaping Stems

Frick, it brought out oxidation in my stem! I just deoxidized that a couple months ago!

    Reshaping Stems

Don't know if this should be in maintenance or not. Just wondering if it's a normal thing to reshape your pipe stems. I'm about to try it on my wellington, I want a bit more of a curve on it, it would sit in my mouth a lot better. I'd like to do it to my Brigham as well, Brigham's bent stems...

    Aging: Tin or Jar?

I know I've asked before, I'd rather not make a whole thread on it, but after a tin is opened and you seal it in a mason jar (and stored in a cool or dark place) about how long could it last? I know a sealed tin unopened can last, well decades if stored right. How about after opening sealed in...

My Little Sister Is An Anti

Tobacco isn't good for you, it really isn't, its not rocket science. The enjoyment and relaxation from the hobby can be beneficial though. Anyway, a couple bags of chips a week is probably worse for you than a bowl of tobacco a day.

    Dunhill London Mixture

Any other thoughts on this? I've been really interested in this ol' classic seeming mixture. I have a tin of this but didn't plan on trying it till i try Nightcap, but lately I've been thinking of cracking open the tin before Nightcap instead. How does this tobacco rank among you guys?

    Half and Half, Not bad!

You know, I just bashed Half and Half last week when I finally tried my pouch of it I bought a while ago. I thought I'd try a cheap tobacco, so I bought a pack of that and SWR. I hated it the first bowl, in fact I didn't even finish it. I tried it again yesterday and my opinion of it...

    Dottle, The Unburned Tobacco

My thoughts exactly. I almost always have some dottle. I hate relighting it, I hate the burning taste and its just not worth ruining a pleasant bowl to me. If it somehow fouls my pipe to the point where I notice it and it bothers me, I guess i'll have to get another pipe, ha. To each his own.
