    Pipe Shapes

A favorite shape is as individual a preference as favorite finish, favorite blend, or, in fact, favorite pipe. So, I dunno about favorite shape, but here are what I have found to be two worthy pipe shape resources: https://www.tobaccopipes.com/a-complete-guide-to-tobacco-pipe-shapes-almost/...

    Removing Carbon Buildup on Rim

My pipes wear the rim "lava" as a sign of accomplishment. Go figure.

    What is the Best Balkan?

Old Balkan Sobranie, but barring that, I prefer Sasieni and White Knight. Bat that's just my opinion; I could be wrong.

When in Doubt, Dry It Out

Back in seminary, in the late ‘60’s, there was no one to tell us that some tobacco came too wet, and some came too dry. The upperclassmen didn’t know, and the facultywasn’t talking. It wasn’t until my second pipe life, in 2016 when Itook up the pipe again after giving it up in 1984, that I heard...

    My First Buzz

First and only time I smoked a cigar - it was a Bering, the kind that came in an aluminum tube, with a thin sheet of what I thought was cedar surrounding the cigar -- I fell off a stool. No such adventures smoking my pipes.

    JM Boswell Tobacconist

I've smoked aromatics, both drugstore brands and tobacconist's offerings since 1964, along with frequent ventures into English blends. Recently, I've discovered Boswell's Aromatics. I've tried their Aromatic Sampler: Boswell's Best VANILLA Piper's Pleasure CHOCOLATE VANILLA COFFEE Raspberry...

Mr. Subliminal Middleton's Cherry Blend Review

Like many folks my age, I began pipe smoking with Middleton’s Cherry Blend. No, actually I began with John Rolfe Peach Brandy tobacco, which was what our organist smoked. Tobacco Reviews | Lane Limited - John Rolfe - https://www.tobaccoreviews.com/blend/671/lane-limited-john-rolfe But it...

Boswell Pipes & Tobacco Cherry Smash review

For a cherry, Smash is ok, but I prefer the Boswell Raspberry Cream when I want that kind of fruity accent.

When in Doubt, Dry It Out

I bgan smoking a pipe in 1964 when I entered seminary. Most of us who smoked were pipers. This was before the internet, and none of our pipe “experts” (upperclassmen) ever talked about drying tobacco. Humidifying dried out tobacco, yes, but we all assumed that what came in a tin was “fresh” and...

Boswell Pipes & Tobacco Christmas Cookie Review

One cannot go wrong with most Boswell’s aromatics. Christmas Cookie is for those who favor the “seasoning” of winter holiday blends. The only Boswell aro that is a fail is the Rum River, a blend with not a trace of rum flavor.

    Sutcliff Molto Dolce

Until I discoved both Rattray’s and Boswell’s aromatics, I smoked a 50/50 blend of Molto Dolce and Barbados Plantation. A sweet and delicious smoke, but, ultimately, too much PG.

    Sutliff Molto Dolce Help Needed!

Molto Dolce mixed 50/50 with Maple Street (both by Sutliff). Best Aromatic I've ever encountered. Goot tasting, great smelling, NO BITE. The Maple Street takes the "goopiness" out of the mixture and leaves you with an easy to light/easy to keep lit experience. I began pipe smoking in 1964...
