over 2 years nothing tastes right and I cant smell a thing , but I still smoke Red VA and Peterson Flake , it pretty much sucks but , still glad to be above ground surrounded by good folks , and so many other things to be grateful for.
By your handle I took it you were Catholic, forgive my ignorance but I was raised Irish Catholic (now Orthodox) and I have never heard of Tobacco being sinful but again I was Irish Catholic so Whiskey and Lucky Strikes kind of was the Tradition.
Attend a pipe club looking for philosophers and you'll likely come up empty.
Attend an Orthodox or Catholic or Anglican or Reformed church and find out when guys get together to talk theology, and you'll find half of them lighting pipes and the other half interested to try.

If you are having trouble finding anything online next time you are in Portland stop in at Rich's Cigar they might know where the pipe smokers are meeting up nowadays. They have a great selection of tobacco also.
I'm always trying to get those Caporal's hoping they taste like the OG Gauloises and Gigantes never got a confirmation if they have that black leaf that the ciggs had before the nicotine tar level laws castrated them.
That is pretty much why I only collect cheap Brighams sans the filter for outings and Ser Jacopos for home use, dependable open draw every time. Though I have a few others here and there these always deliver the flavor.
Another vote for Peterson Flake (formerly Dunhill) for a great, user-friendly, no-nonsense Virginia flake.
If you can get your hands on it and I've seen it around lately Solani Aged Burley Flake is another top-of-the-line Burley.
For straight, you can't go wrong with those

I have to get smoking I think I might compare 3 a day starting today as I was sick and lost what little taste COVID had left me but reds still seem to sing I'll post up tomorrow night guesses and all before reading the thread
I have a few dedicated burley pipes one for Aged Burly Flake a big ol knobby Peterson bent egg type shape and for Five Brothers a big ol Rossi Lumberman for some reason, the only way I can really taste Old Dark Fired is in a cob might be a quirk cause Bold Dark Fired Taste Better in briar. Enjoy...
It would be fun to exclusively smoke Adam Davidson Pipes because with how much I smoke and how much his pipes cost I would probably only be smoking 70's era Balkan Sobrani and be living on a Yacht endlessly sailing around the world surrounded by beautiful women in bikinis ;)
noticed that Country Squire had it , so I grabbed a couple more tins excited to compare it with Aged Burley Flake, I hear it has a bit of Va in it which is fine by me, like peanut butter and Jelly
