    Mortise and Tenon Issues

Thanks, bootleg. I'll try that. By the way, love your tagline.

    Mortise and Tenon Issues

I have a 2010 Peterson St. Patrick's Day bent-stem pipe that seems to be having some mortise or tenon issues. The stem is lucite, and a week ago I was going to smoke it for the first time in a while, but was unable to do so when the tenon wouldn't stay in the mortise. It was a loose fit. It's...

Tobacco for a trip to the beach

Update: I ended up taking Mac Baren Plumcake and Dunhill De Luxe Navy Rolls to Florida, but only smoked the Navy Rolls. Thanks, Kevin, for the recommendation, because it was an excellent choice. Our rental house had a screened porch and balcony and I spent several afternoons out there puffing...

You know you've been smoking a pipe too long when...

Feel free to fill in the blank with your own addition: You know you've been smoking a pipe too long when ________________. I'll start it: You know you've been smoking a pipe too long when you start describing the room note of your child's dirty diaper.

    Sealed Tobacco Tins Life Expectancy

@portascat: That's awesome. If smoking the white crystals brings on that feeling, it might be difficult to part with it. Haven't been there since college.

    One Good Cop

I, personally, have only had one bad experience with a police officer. He was driving five miles under the speed limit; I was driving the speed limit. I passed him on his righthand side. He pulled me over and was aggressive and insulting. I wasn't offended, just unimpressed. I went along...

What should be in my next order of tobacco so i can just find out what i like?

nabottle: I'm definitely seeing an Irish theme there. Along the same lines, whenever I get in another aromatic mood, I'd like to take a swing a Samuel Gawith's Celtic Talisman...if I can find it.

    Sealed Tobacco Tins Life Expectancy

Good question, shaintiques. Good answer, uncle. I've wondered the same thing. Last month I was visiting a B&M that doesn't move a lot of tinned tobacco, but they had several tins of Samuel Gawith in various forms. I've noticed that the anything with Sam's name on it is rare, so I grabbed a...

What should be in my next order of tobacco so i can just find out what i like?

Dunhill De Luxe Navy Rolls, if you want to ignore all the really good advice of buying a sampler pack or two.

Which pipe tobaccos are the least like cigarettes?

I smoked cigarettes for several years when I was younger and admittedly stupider. I smoked Camels, which were supposedly a better grade of tobacco than most others. Don't know how true that is, but I liked 'em more than Marlboros, Dorals, Newports, etc. Anyway, I can't stand the smell of...

    One Good Cop

I enjoyed the video. Well, I enjoyed watching how well the officer handled himself, because I doubt I'd have that level of restraint against someone packing heat and refusing to identify himself. I guess that's why I'm not a police officer. I'm a big fan of our rights, but I have a tendency...

Planning on building a pipe cabinet

I started out with the intention of smoking only Petersons, since I've always been strongly biased toward anything Irish. However, once I got over that, I've opened myself up to just about anything I can afford. I'm more into aesthetics and how well it smokes, and the two are sometimes...

    The Right Way

I've always subscribed to the theory that there really is a right way and a wrong way to do just about everything. However, I think the "right way" is a really large grey area: the right way is the way that works, achieves your goal, get's you where you're going, however you want to word it...

From 30 pipes to no pipes.

That truly is a tragedy. It is awesomely warm and fuzzy to see so many wanting to send you pipes, though. I'm sure the gift-pipes wouldn't truly replace the lost ones, but as they say, "when one door closes, another opens." That cliche could apply here in some way. I hope so, at least.

Pipe Smoking in the American Southeast in the Summer

Thanks for all your enlightening replies. I think I'm getting what I thought I'd get: Go light in the heat or just stay out of the heat, all together. I was surprised to see that aros were so popular in the heat. It's funny that, even before reading these posts, I've returned Peterson's...

Pipe Smoking in the American Southeast in the Summer

Yeah, I know it's a lenghty title, but it gets the point across. I re-read Greg Pease's article on how weather/climate sometimes influences what people smoke (http://pipesmagazine.com/blog/out-of-the-ashes/the-blends-of-summer/), and it had me reflecting on my smoking experiences this summer and...

Planning on building a pipe cabinet

I think I'm just going to make the stem rests 1" wide just to be on the safe side. I have an old antique pipe stand with tobacco bowl that has the stem rests at 7/8" wide and it's not big enough for the thickest part of the stem, so better safe than sorry.

Planning on building a pipe cabinet

As the title indicates, I'm planning to build my own pipe cabinet since the prices for these things are just stupid expensive (even on e-bay, or maybe I'm just cheap), and I was wondering if anyone has any idea what the average stem diameter of the average pipe might be? An even better...

    What brings the flavor out?

@Bob: I read the blog post you recommended. It's interesting stuff. Is it possible that the latakia could kill my tastebuds after only three or four smokes over the course of a few days?

    Funky Smelling Meerschaum

I have a skull-shaped meerschaum pipe my wife got me a few years ago, and I'm a little concerned about it. I don't smoke it often, mainly because it has a questionable smell coming from it when I smoke it. I've smoked two or three different tobaccos in it and I've also smoked the same tobaccos...
