About the only attention my stems get is when I smoke them! I am a lazy pile smoker!
Me too.
I keep them clean, but the bowls tend to be dull and the stems oxidize.
Eventually I get to them with steel wool and Beeswax and they are good for another few years.
But I like a very thin rock hard cake and keep the stem/shank squeaky clean.

Almost half way through this bowl of year 2024 Edward G. Robinson's Pipe Blend in a 2014 Basil Meadows smooth slight bend squashed tomato with an aluminum band and a black pearl acrylic stem in the military mount style. Fed all the cats, and am watching the Nats-Guardians game.
