Very impressive carving... but why would anyone want to smoke that...

    Newminster/Stokkebye

I appreciate the recommendation and will have to try it at some point, but I must say: per pound, Indaba runs about twice as expensive.

    Desert Island Blends

I'd just bring all Brown Bogie and try to make my "compatriots" turn green.

    Less is More

Oh no you're becoming a codger! Personally, I enjoy choices and variety. I usually have some obscure itch that only a specific blend will scratch. And I love deciding which pipe to smoke.

What Pipe Brand Don’t You Own But Want To?

Many of the fine Italian pipes: Castello, Caminetto, Viprati, Ser Jacopo. The thing is I would rarely smoke them anyway because I love meers so much, and they tend to be quite expensive for me.

Are You Using an Asbestos Wick?

I will say, if it is asbestos, it is very harmful. Wicks by nature are fibrous and potentially friable, especially being that old. And with you lighting it up, that would be releasing fibers into the air that you wind up inhaling and it can cause irreversible health problems years down the road.

Are You Using an Asbestos Wick?

You could always take off a small piece and send it to a lab to test. I know EMSL does this. I'm not sure how much it would cost but then you would know for sure at least. They charge per sample, so if you just sent one small sample, I don't think it would be much at all.

    Keeping Pipes in Cars

I don't know about a briar, but I always keep a particular meerschaum in my car as my car pipe and it has held up fine. In Florida, so it definitely gets hot here.
