NPW that just needs a little love
I like the old NPWs. That one does have potential. The cloudy amber stem makes me think it's likely an 1890s pipe. The later stems are more clear. Looks like it should be a good save. -
CPF Best Make
That's a nice old CPF. The stem is ruby Bakelite. Being that it's stamped as an amber, the Bakelite is probably an early replacement. Those amberoid stems were pretty easy to wear out or break. Finding a pipe with a rim cap that isn't banged up is damn near impossible. That one is pretty... -

Old Pre-colored JTS Meerschaum
There are people using colored wax these days. They all seem to be some shade of brown though. I haven't bought one so I don't know if they reverse color as the wax is absorbed.- xrundog

Do cold pipes always stink?
Pipes stink. It's probably the main drawback of smoking pipes. They could have been smoked yesterday, last week or last month. Take a dozen, put 'em in a closed room, and when you come back in later you will smell them. Just keep them someplace where they won't offend anybody's olfactory...- xrundog

Barling with 2 part stummel.
I remember seeing a post about a smooth Barling like that recently. I think the consensus was that during the war when briar supply was short, pipes were made like that. They are not terribly uncommon.- xrundog

Old Pre-colored JTS Meerschaum
In the late 19th-early 20th century a lot of meerschaum pipes were sold pre-colored with an "oxblood" stain and sealed. The glossy finish is indicative of that. It almost has a ceramic look. Old Pre-colored JTS Meerschaum
This old timer was listed as a BIN on eBay. It had the Make Offer function open so I did. It was an easy meet in the middle deal. The telltale sunset coloring of a lightly used pre-colored old meerschaum pulled me in. The case label says: JTS Best Make". Seems like it might be a store rebranded...- xrundog
