    Meerschaum Fairies?

So I posted a thread a while back about how my lattice meerschaum cracked and they replaced it... and then the second one cracked. I chalked it up to a combination of user error and possible manufacturer defect. Anyway, today I pulled the pipe out to show my father how badly it had cracked...

To Rest or Not to Rest

I smoke a fair bit. I make sure it’s as dry as I can get it with pipecleaners after each use, but some days I might smoke five or six bowls in it.

To Rest or Not to Rest

So my pipe collection doesn’t quite match the amount of smoking I do. I’ve read a fair bit on pipe rotation and a lot of conversations seem to boil down to “my grandpa smoked the same briar every day for forty years and never had a problem” or “you must always rest your briars” If I had more...

Is This Me or the Pipe?

Given the responses I’ve received so far I am going to chalk this one up to somewhere in between poor quality and user error. The next meerschaum I buy will be a solid piece instead of the fancy lattice. The solid ones I am eyeing cost twice as much as this one so I suspect there is a bit of...

Is This Me or the Pipe?

Well I smoked a bowl in the car and I felt it crack further. That will be the last bowl smoked in it. After the failure of this pipe and the one before it I will be getting a display case with a plaque reading “2020 Pipe” If any pipe embodies the spirit of 2020 it’s this pipe. C’est la vie...

Is This Me or the Pipe?

I didn’t think it was an intended result. I’m just baffled as to how it could’ve happened. Before I just pass it off as poor quality craftsmanship I’d like to make sure it wasn’t user error either. The coldest I smoked either of them was 6°C outside and the pipe was in a hoodie pocket, so still...

Is This Me or the Pipe?

So as I said in my tale of woe thread my new pipe broke four days after purchase. I got a new one I love it. They said they wouldn’t replace this one. Two days later this happens. https://ibb.co/M7z91wC I haven’t been smoking them too hot, and I haven’t dropped it or tapped it against my shoe...

    A Tale of Woe

Thank you. It smokes beautifully and the case doesn’t seem to have the same issues as the last one. Also I think I actually prefer the shape of this one as well. Barring any catastrophic failures on my part this one should serve me well for the rest of my days.

    A Tale of Woe

From the start it felt like the case was a bit tight and the clasp kept popping loose. I had wrapped a pipe cleaner around the case which somewhat solved the problem, but made putting the case in the pocket of my knit sweater a touch difficult. On the fourth day the case felt like it closed...

    A Tale of Woe

Just to close the loop. Swapped out for this beauty. Looking forward to many solid years with it. Smokes very nicely. https://ibb.co/GQxkH4K https://ibb.co/CbnX6hh

    My Grandfather’s Pipes - Score!!

What’s that the pipes are sitting in/packed with? If I was to guess I’d say it’s absorbing old oils/resins?

    A Tale of Woe

Thank you for all the kind replies. It was a dark time for me, but the store called yesterday and they’re going to replace my pipe. Huzzah! I’m heading in today to pick it up. Won’t be the same pipe, but he has a selection of meerschaums I can choose from. I think they’re all lattice style, but...

    A Tale of Woe

So I got myself a new meerschaum pipe for Christmas. I felt the case was a bit tight. Four days later this happened. https://i.postimg.cc/MG68jvXL/ED4-BCBE7-7720-4453-8-E16-3264-CD3-D6139.jpg Brought it back to the store and they’re going to contact the manufacturer and we’ll see what happens...

    Changing Pipes

Excellent. Thanks for the advice. This Briarwood pipe was $90 and I was viewing it as mostly a practice run to figure out how to best take care of my pipe before dropping money on a really nice one. That being said this pipe smokes really well so I’d like to keep it in top shape for as long as...

    Changing Pipes

I’ll take a look in there and see what I’ve missed. Can I soak my stem in anything to make cleaning easier?
