Anybody Else Super Fascinated by Stanwell?

Black understain, cranberry/oxblood (or similar) overstain, two tone finish. Some pipes took the black stain better than others. It's a finish that CAN look amazing, but many examples online don't look great. I think the chess series may have also used that stain, or a variation of it, on the...

In case anyone is wondering, "RO 25" is the stain/finish code.

    Ranger Reamer & Custombilt Reamer

I just received it yesterday. Unfortunately, it's missing the rubber cone shaped washer. Works well for reaming dublins despite the lack of the washer. I'll have to stop at the hardware store soon and see if they have something that will work as a replacement washer/bushing.

    Advice On Pipedia Contribution

Pipedia has had to do purges on low traffic pages before, removing pipe photos to conserve server space. If you want to contribute, adding new shapes to the various brands shape charts would be helpful, or adding other historical pipe info of value that helps people date and identify vintage...

Shape 184. Made by GBD, Comoy, Chacom & Kaywoodie?

Also found a GBD 184 Danton pipe online from the 1920's/30's, so this shape has been in their catalog for a while. It's the only other 184 GBD I've been able to find.

Show Off Your GBD Pipes (and 2nds)

Seller's pics. I probably should have asked for more pictures from the seller. 184 bent apple, 'New Era' line in an uncommon sandblast, St. Claude pipe. I own this shape from other manufacturers, but this is the first GBD I've seen with it. No clue if it's old or new production. I assume old...

Shape 184. Made by GBD, Comoy, Chacom & Kaywoodie?

Here's the aforementioned Comoy's Blue Riband. And here is a special edition Noel pipe Chacom did in the 184 shape for a Christmas pipe. It's a nice enough looking pipe, but I don't think chunking up the stem does the pipe's shape any favors.

Shape 184. Made by GBD, Comoy, Chacom & Kaywoodie?

This particular adventure started when I traded some pipe tobacco for a single pick of a recent antique store haul (about 14 pipes). This resulted in my first French pipe, and my second Algerian briar pipe. It's my go to 'beater pipe.' It's the top pipe in this picture: The shape 184 is a small...

    Show me that workhorse pipe!

If Saddam Hussian smoked a pipe, this would be it. The added diamonds, rubies, and emeralds, and let's not forget that sapphire, add the proper touch of ostentatious display. ...Or restrained dignity. Depends on one's point of view, eh?

    Nording Is Closing Up

Briar painted or coated in such a way that it sort of looks like a meerschaum pipe. (If you take off your glasses, squint, and tilt your head to side). It's Ivory/white fading to dark brown/black near the rim and the end of the shank. Usually on a sandblast or carved pipe. "Nord-coat" is what...

Was it by chance, a Nordcoat pipe?

    Pipe Shape Subtleties........

I have one that I eventually just called a "blowfish cauldron," and yes, it looks as odd as that sounds. Haven't really found a one size fits all shape that covers it. Fancy or Freehand is kind of a boring cop out to use on something this spectacularly... something, alright.
