Opened my first G.L. Pease today

@cortezattic: yes, we get all the Samuel Gawith and Gawith & Hoggarth tobaccos here, most even in bulk, so yes, in that case we are quite spoiled. The Pease tobaccos cost around 22 Dollars here. The S Gawith: tins about 15, bulk 12.00.

How often, when, and why should one tamp?

Just tamp when you feel it's necessary. I learned that I just know when, without thinking. every tobacco is different but one learns to handle it.

    Peterson Snob?

Jim, I am with you here. I own both too, entry Peterson's and higher grad ones. All are a treat to smoke. I regard my Peterson's as not only fine looking (of course I have chosen them), but as good to very good quality pipes as well. Then there is another thing: The sterling and nickel works...

    A little one from France

During my Vacations in the south of France I found this little pipe. It was love at first sight!!! It is a Chap from Saint Claude. Quite a nifty pipe with a lot of wood for it's size! Edit: Hey Phil, try this.

    pipe shapes / styles

I do have mostly classic shapes, those are the ones I like most. I began with more unusual ones, but honestly I can't get tired of the classic Pot, Billard, Apple, Lovat...

    You're on a desert island

Darn, such a diffcult question. I'd take PATTON as film and MINDFIELDS by Toto as music. And one of my Petersons!!!!

What kind of pets do pipe smokers have.

Two dogs and two Geckos! Dogs love it when I smoke, because then it's garden or walkout time!!! When I go to my pipes they jump up and know what's going on.
