***What Are You Smoking, April 2024?***

Bengal Slices in my Castello Sea Rock. And as a bonus, I found my Nording stones while I was working in the garage today and forgot how much I like them.

Why do B&Ms Rebrand Bulk Tobacco?

Because The Briary's Briary Blend sounds better than Stokkebye's Peach Abomination. Whatever sells. I find it irritating too. Long live Wilford.

Black Arrow before the skies open up for the next 16 hours. The wind smoked half of this bowl, but the half I got was pretty good.

    Have Any Blends Gotten Better?

In my experience, Country Squire blends like to be smoked hot. Most pipe tobacco I've tried like to be smoked slow and low. Especially the common bulk ones that I started with--Lane Limited 1-Q, BCA, LL-7. I smoked these blends too hot for years, and then I finally learned how to pack a pipe...

    Need Some Advice, Please!

Every time I see a pipe or a blend that I want to buy, I put it in my Smokingpipes shopping cart. Then I'll go to my pipe shelf and spend 10 minutes deciding on which of my 20 pipes I want to smoke, which of the 40 jars I want to dip into, or which of the 40 new-to-me tins I'd like to crack...

    Oldest Smoked Tobacco...

I'm going through some jars from 2019. I only smoked bulk then, so I've got some RLP-6 and MacB Scottish Mixture that are nearing the bottom of the jar. The Scottish Mixture is all over the place like it usually is, but really easy to find the pocket. The RLP-6 aged nicely. I've also got 2019...

    Different Break In Methods

I've dumped plenty of blends at 1/3 bowl that I thought were cashed, and some blends just start tasting like crap at the end. Recently, I've been focusing on emptying jars of old stuff, and it's dry as British comedy. I know when I've finished a 5-year-old bowl of MacB Scottish Mixture when I...

    Different Break In Methods

I'm on team stuff-'n-puff. I can see why burning sugar or honey would accelerate a carbon coating, but I've never understood what the partial-bowl method is supposed to do.

***What Are You Smoking, February 2024?***

Two bowls of 5-year-old MacB Scottish Mixture, back-to-back. The second bowl was way more enjoyable than the first. This blend does that sometimes. Savinelli 673 Luisa Fiammata

    Crack in my Morta chamber

Can't see the video yet. Is that your only morta pipe? It shouldn't crack. It's a difficult material to work with. If your pipe maker isn't known for their morta, maybe consider a briar. But there's nothing wrong with having at least one morta in your pipe rack.
