    Smoking Pipe around Children...

I don't smoke at all when my grandkids are around, and I don't wear clothes that I have smoked in. A bit extreme? Perhaps. But the wife won't tolerate it and ... well you understand.

    Suggestios Please....

Savinelli 804. Lot’s of finishes to choose from and different prices based on those finishes. Its a Canadian and it is one of my favorites. I smoke it with a 6mm savinelli charcoal filter.

How Many Blends Do You Have in Rotation?

Roughly twenty blends jarred that I grab randomly based on whatever strikes me at the moment. Around 60-70 tins. I haven’t opened a new tin in years.

Pipe Tobacco is no Good Anymore/Better Than Before

The loss of syrian latakia supposedly materially and negatively impacted the quality of English blends. I never smoked syrian latakia so I don’t know how valid that is. I hear that as perique has become more scarce vapers have suffered. My sense is that small growers and blenders (like...

Update on the STG Closure Of Sutliff and Mac Baren

It reminds me of the words of the zek in Jack Reacher: “Enough? There is no such thing. We take what can be taken. This is what we do.” 😀 Actually, I have found pipe smokers to be quite amiable and generous for the most part. But there is a little of the “zek” in us all.

Update on the STG Closure Of Sutliff and Mac Baren

It seems like a majority of posts on this topic include some reference to how much the poster has stocked up, size of cellar, etc - sort of a “well, at least I got mine approach”. The pipe tobacco hobby seems to attract hoarders to some extent. I certainly was headed down that road until I...

    Just in from STG/MacBaren/Sutliff

I have been catching up on this snd related threads. The situation does not seem that complicated. Smoking generally has declined precipitously and pipe smoking is effectively dead or dying. Its a small niche pastime. I know of two other pipe smokers and neither smokes frequently. Yet the...

    Cutting Back

This thread speaks to me. I restarted pipe smoking in 2019 (right after Mclelland shut down) after a 10 year hiatus - i had one pipe and had been a very occasional smoker decades ago. I got slightly obsessed and within 3-4 years wound up with 90ish unopened tins and about 2 lbs of jarred...

Update on the STG Closure Of Sutliff and Mac Baren

I always thought there are too many sutliff varieties. Rationalizing their catalog might make sense.

    Plastic for Storing Tobacco?

As someone mentioned above, I have some cigars that have sat in cheap tupperware with a bovida pack for years and are perfectly ok. I think humidity stability is more important that an airtight seal.

    Are Windcaps Over?

Those windcaps look very cool. I don't think I have ever seen one in person.
