Oh my, that is quite the collection. What is the shape number of that magnificent Oom Paul with the Cavalier flair?

Wring out the Full Virginia Flake

Hardly any work at all for such a great smoke, one of the best VA-BURs I've ever smoked, most excellent.

Wring out the Full Virginia Flake

Reviving this thread. After some initial frustrations with FVF, I have had great success with the following method. First, snip the flakes down to 1/4" to 1/2" then use a metal weed grinder to mill the flakes to a short ribbon cut. Second, add some Pegasus or Haunted Bookshop, and mix...

    Take a break question.

My son recently moved to NYC and he is soon to discover what 20° and a stiff breeze feels like! Last time I was there I about froze to death trying to walk Central Park from Natural History over to the Met. I hate cold weather.

    Take a break question.

Um, only TWELVE? What a slacker! puffy I've got enough jars that I could smoke for five weeks and never hit the same blend twice. When the weather turns cold and slow, luxurious smokes are no longer a daily thing, aromatics really satisfy. I think I'm going to smoke some right now, in fact!

GL Pease Embarcadero - A Blend I Enjoy

I'm closing in on the end of my first tin of Embarcadero. It's lovely stuff, the flakes rub out perfectly every time. I particularly like to smoke this in my ginormous Altinay billiard meerschaum, although it has served me well in every pipe: the hallmark of a great blend.

ISO G&H Rich Dark Honeydew 9-30-25

Rich Dark Honeydew is basically a lighter version of Bosun Cut, with less rose topping and a bit less dark fired VA. Very similar to Grasmere as well. Coniston is in the same family.

9mm Charcol Filters vs Meerschaum Throwdown

@Sigmund - Well, here's a funny filter anecdote. I left a dish of filters on the patio to sun and refresh, we got a little pop of rain and the filters got soaked. The water was quite brown, I dumped it, and left it out to dry. A couple of days later the formerly skanky brown filters looked...

    Ghosted Pipe Recipes

I will second (or third) a simple soap and water scrub with a shank brush. I scrub the shank and bowl with lukewarm soapy water any time a pipe starts to get bitter. Works like a charm. I have to thank the pipers here for the idea. Never would have tried it but it makes perfect sense once you...

What Was Your First "I Gotta Buy 5 Pounds of This Stuff!" Tobacco?

I'll never understand the people on this and other forums who seem to make a sport of poking and antagonizing and second-guessing Gawith. The best blends in my collection all have the name Gawith on them. Frankly, most of the other blends out of the ~100 I've tried taste pretty mediocre by...

    Rainy Weather Smokes?

Rain and cold means I'm reaching for the English blends.

Peterson Bowl Cracked During Alcohol Cleaning

Looks like a job for pipe mud and a coat of Peterson Pipe Notes' All Purpose Bowl Coating. "The APBC has scored a clean-tasting smoke on every pipe I’ve tested it on since October, significantly beyond what I’ve achieved with the isopropyl alcohol soak method. Why this should be so I can’t tell...
