Robert McConnell's Scottish Flake in a Danish Tobacco Shop's "The Dan" (sandblasted). Still getting over being sick for the past few weeks (I finally managed to get Covid). Better inexpensive pipe
There are quite a few options under $100. You can find decent estate pipes... I bought a nice briar from The Danish Pipe Shop (The Dan) which was around $75. But you'll probably pay less shipping with SP links posted by @Chasing Embers above. Keep your eye out on eBay for some bargains, there... -
Stepping Away from In-Store, Big Jar Blends.
Yeah I would agee with that. I have also been focussing on finding a selection of blends that are regularly available (For building up the cellar). Much of my rotation is G&H, GLPease and Kolhase & Kopp blends. I wish Germains were easier to get. I'm not sure I'd go so far as saying I avoid...- Mtlpiper

Dedicating Pipes to Certain Types.
I dedicate pipes to genres rather than specific blends as well. Though there are a few pipes that are becoming dedicated to a blend by chance of rotation. Tobacco goes out constantly; I relight; Ash comes out black.
I'm sure the OP's issue is due to moisture. But to play devil's advocate -- there is no single truth is there? Especially when the blends and cuts vary so much. Dry is mostly better (99% of the time), But there is always an exception to the rule. Some tobacco blends just smoke better a little...- Mtlpiper
