***What Are You Smoking, December 2022?***

Starting the day with some Bob's Chocolate Flake and a nice Kenyan coffee. Just got some new tins - and it has been some time since stocking up on it back in 2006. Pic shows the new vs old - I'd forgotten it was this colour fresh.

What Are You Listening To? - December 2022

I've been on a bit of a folk run today's vid:

    New Member from Canada

Welcome (from Montreal also) well, out in Anjou atm. With regard to the tongue bite, you might try a 9mm filter, if you haven't already. For some people, it seems to help a lot, but you're already doing the right thing by smoking as dry as you can. Bienvenue!

What Are You Smoking, October 2022?

Robert McConnell's Scottish Flake in a Danish Tobacco Shop's "The Dan" (sandblasted). Still getting over being sick for the past few weeks (I finally managed to get Covid). It's good to feel ready to smoke a pipe again - enjoying the Scottish Flake quite a bit - but one flake lasts me for 2...

    Better inexpensive pipe

There are quite a few options under $100. You can find decent estate pipes... I bought a nice briar from The Danish Pipe Shop (The Dan) which was around $75. But you'll probably pay less shipping with SP links posted by @Chasing Embers above. Keep your eye out on eBay for some bargains, there...

Stepping Away from In-Store, Big Jar Blends.

Yeah I would agee with that. I have also been focussing on finding a selection of blends that are regularly available (For building up the cellar). Much of my rotation is G&H, GLPease and Kolhase & Kopp blends. I wish Germains were easier to get. I'm not sure I'd go so far as saying I avoid...

***What Are You Smoking, Sept. 2022?***

Congratulations @alaskanpiper on the Adeline. I think I may be coming down with the sniffles (have had to do Covid tests all day - thankfully negatives). But I'll still smoke me a bowl of some Scottish Flake fore I head tae bed early - in a wee panelled billiard.

    Good Cheap Pipe

@SBC An interestingly mystical response! 🧐 There's nowt so queer as folk, and there is no accounting for taste - which is clearly subjective. I appreciate a decently carved piece of briar as much as any pipe forum member and though pipes are indeed just a simple "tobacco delivery system". They...

    Dedicating Pipes to Certain Types.

I dedicate pipes to genres rather than specific blends as well. Though there are a few pipes that are becoming dedicated to a blend by chance of rotation. Another point of interest - I tend to look at aspects of the pipe characteristics that will lend favour to particular cuts of tobacco or...

    Good Cheap Pipe

That seems quite the superficial statement. I am an appreciator of tobacco, so yes - I do have some pretty pipes, but I certainly don't frown at a Falcon. Firstly = I don't think Falcon's look that terrible. They were also quite innovative for their time and are at least interesting as a...

    Good Cheap Pipe

Falcon pipes are great for the money in the UK. It's what I would pick for a budget pipe. You can always get more bowls later.

Tobacco goes out constantly; I relight; Ash comes out black.

I'm sure the OP's issue is due to moisture. But to play devil's advocate -- there is no single truth is there? Especially when the blends and cuts vary so much. Dry is mostly better (99% of the time), But there is always an exception to the rule. Some tobacco blends just smoke better a little...
