Why Switch from Cigarettes to Pipe?

    This goes over my head.

    Do You Do the Dottle?

My ash has generally been white, with some unburnt leaves mixed in.

This is a great idea :)

    Quality Inexpensive Hachet?

I heard harbour freight has a quality hatchet for like $15 with hickory handle. Haven’t experienced it myself, but heard good things from a man I trust. Tip: search for hand axe instead of hatchet.

    Quality Inexpensive Hachet?

I’ve been extremely happy with products from coldsteel. The tomahawks are portable like a hatchet but less dangerous. I like to tinker, I did put some work into “fixing it up” but they are very inexpensive and very satisfying to use. What kind of work are you looking to do with it? Eg: I’ve...

Tell me more about that folding pouch?

    Not a Hobby!?

I feel this. There’s no proper word for this.

Favored techniques for pocket knife sharpening?

Certainly for axes. agreed. I used to use these cheap diamond rod pens, but they’d wear out so fast. The files last longer and get edges sharp enough for use. The fine stone and buffing to a mirror polish are just indulgent.

    Not a Hobby!?

I don't have high hopes that such a term can exist. I'm not giving up though! I'm afraid "obsession" excludes some hobbists, but "amusment" isn't serious enough. Perhaps "labor of love" would satisfy all :) "Schtick"?

Do you just put the jar on the warmer? I'm intrigued in using this method to dry tobacco when the humidity gets high.

    Carving Meerschaum

Being 1.5 hours later, I suspect it has dried quite a bit already. I'm not really a great resource on this, but I've acquired two meers within the last month. The beater I've soaked in water seems pretty dry within about 1/2 hour in the on the counter. The humidity isn't too high in MN yet...

    Not a Hobby!?

This is funny. I must concede I would not ask for any refunds if offered. I also received a couple of free briar pipes & a few jars of tobacco from a forum member that was quitting when I started.

    Not a Hobby!?

Just so I don't get accused of gushing: I know for a fact I'd have saved $$ if I were not on this forum with you guys. Why do I have so many pipes? I was perfectly happy with my original 2 cobs and grabow... You all had a part in going from just 'smoking' into a hobby for me. There should be a...
