A very generous friend dropped off a Solstice gift for me yesterday - an unsmoked Peterson 2021 Halloween bent apple (303), along with some lovely tobacco!

I'd never smoked a Peterson. It seems that people have strong opinions about specific models and specific bits; lots of discussions taking place. The whole System thing and P-lip thing felt over-my-head as a new pipe smoker. However, when I received this pipe, I began reading about the System and the bit, and then I packed the pipe "the Peterson way" (canted) and lit it up.

Holy wow.

Such an amazing difference in what I perceive in terms of flavor. No tongue irritation. And it was not at all difficult to clean the reservoir afterward (I was careful not to tilt the pipe or dump it out until after the reservoir had been cleaned.)

I enjoyed the experience so much. Then I thought, "Now I'm going to have to wait until this pipe comes around in the rotation again." :(

Decided I needed another in the rotation, so a Peterson Halloween 2025 (305) will soon be on its way to me, along with a currently-included free tin of tobacco. I mean... it was on sale. :) (Last photo: SmokingPipes.)

I love my Petes, I'm up to about 10 of them now, all but two are System pipes (and all of mine are P-Lip stems). They smoke cool and lovely, and if I may provide a pro-tip, you can actually pull the stem out during a smoke and use a q-tip or even the curled-up end of a napkin to swab out the reservoir, which keeps the smoke even cooler and drier. I keep a small supply of q-tips in my smoking kit for just that reason.

The thinking man smokes a Peterson pipe, as the old advert said!

Let us know what you think about the p-lip.
I actually love it. I use bit guards on my other pipes (I have TMJ), so I have to be careful with the P-lip, as I don't think one would work on it. I'll hold the pipe, rather than clench it. But I love how it directs the smoke above my tongue. That's why I chose the second pipe. :)

It works, barely. I keep planning to get surgical tubing, which is smaller than the rubber nubbies for my p-lips and my stock MM cob bits.
