...and think about what it will mean societally when video and photographic "proof" will cease to exist as a categorical thing. When every type of video from security cam footage, to reporter footage, to dashcam footage, to police bodycam footage must be "lab tested" to determine authenticity, the same way DNA is now.

Yeah, but you can't trust those videos claiming whatever they are claiming either. With luck,AI will disintegrate itself by lack of any trust what so ever in it. It hasn't been around long and my stance is total distrust of any video or photographs on line. It's sad but it's going to really hurt art, among others.

Real? Or Not Real?

(This level of fake is possible today.)

The sad thing for me is how people are already falling for videos that are obviously fake.

IMO this hope is predicated on folks having critical thinking skills which have not been cultivated in schools for the last 15+ years.

It was semi-rare always, but if someone under 40 has those skills, they are self taught and generally occur in spite of their public school experience.

Even more important is what it will mean legally.

Nothing to worry about though really...I'm sure the "authorities" will produce their "experts" to tell everyone which ones are real and which ones are not. No problem there, right?

The power of digital technology makes all manner of fakery and villainy both easily possible and easily likely. The convenience of digital technology will make weaning ourselves off of it pretty much impossible because the mass of people lack the mental resources to understand the scope of this.

Of course, the ultimate goal is power and control of us, which is made possible by creating a reality for us to accept as real.

About the only way to avoid this is to go back to analog, and that ain't a gonna happen. So, kick back, relax, and believe what you are fed to believe. And, if you don't believe, it doesn't matter because you have no power in any great amount. Eventually your attachment to an unfiltered reality will cease and you will be absorbed.

Well, time to take the dog out for a shit and a walk. Think I'll enjoy a bowl while I'm about it.

Already happening one way or another. These digital golems are being let loose to unleash chaos and push the people to implore for more legislation to "ensure order and safety". The gov will be all to happy to indulge and overreach into everything.

Hegelian dialectic at work.

Soon the "obvious" part will no longer be the case.

Also, even if it remained possible to determine if something was entirely fabricated by "AI", there could be videos that are almost entirely real, with just small, subtle AI edits that could dramatically alter the perception of what occurred.

Like the Old Cajun says in his avatar, "We have met the enemy and they is us." Taken from an old comic strip called Pogo (a possum) which I think was originally "we have met the enemy and he is us." A reference at the time in the early 1970s about earth's pollution. Still I think humans are their own worst enemy, we create stuff supposedly to make our lives easier, more comfortable, etc. but in the end it can cause more trouble than it solves.
