Lots of worthwhile wisdom in that book.
My parents were educators in an Appalachian area and we had some of those books. In the early 80's the books were quietly removed from the living room. Google Eliot Wigginton. Very sad. Apparently word got around well before charges were filed, and it went on for a long time.

So, you're saying that because of what Wigginton was convicted of, having those books became a liability??

That's what I thought was meant.
Sorry again; I think I'm hung up on the word "liability." No, I don't think my parents were concerned about potential liability to Wigginton's victims, as if they might be responsible for damages for the harm he caused by possessing the books. That would be weird.
But there is something weird about the books quietly being moved. That's a real problem with a part of Southern culture, I think. It's polite to look away and pretend something that causes discomfort isn't there. Kind of like how how Wigginton was handled by the institutions who apparently had been told about his actions. I found a good article here-

[Please, nobody misunderstand my comment as disparaging of Southern culture or Southern people in general. For precedent concerning Southerners criticizing their own culture, please refer to pipe enthusiast Mark Twain 😉]

I never thought you were speaking disparagingly about Southern culture (although God knows plenty of folks do...). I just assumed that since Wigginton's reputation took a beating due to the conviction, there may have been a stigma attached in certain areas.

No biggie..........
