And I concur; best forget it. This is not an easy fix.
I own two unsmoked Perfection graded ones in their original box, UK price tag still attached to a little twine etc. Purchased them from a retired lady tobacconist.
These show wonderful "granite"grain.
I've seen many Belvedere graded showing astonishing grain.
But the stem replacement will be too expensive.

One of my best grained Charatans is a Special. Charatan graded each batch on their own merits. So if a superlative batch of briar came through, even the apprenticeship grade pipes could be really sexy.
