I Remember When..........

Just the other day I was telling some friends how in 1986, at 15 years old, I rode my horse to work at an Amish cheese factory 5 days a week.
We only made "farmers" cheese. It was like a cross between mozzarella and Ricotta. People came from all over to buy it. It was completely tasteless and rubbery to me.

I remember when there use to be ash trays in the doctor's office waiting room.

And your doctor smoked in his office !

I remember going to the local marina and buying cigarettes out of a machine for 75 cents. We were maybe 12 years old, but the marina owner would break a dollar for us.

Well when I started driving I worked in a Sinclair gas station on weekends. It was identical to the one pictured below and it was in Manasquan, NJ.

Anyway, back then gas was about .24 cents a gallon and a pack of cigarettes was close in price. Also when Marlboro introduced cigarettes in a box……. wow….. no longer crushed smokes.

Yes, Dino the dinosaur. Also back then we checked the oil and cleaned the windshield and gave out S&H Green Stamps….. who remembers those ?

My dad's doctor told him he had to stop smoking cigarettes due to circulation problems. Dad said to him "You smoke!" The doctor replied, "Do what I say, not what I do."

I remember when....... I was growing up if family or friends came to visit, they never asked if they could smoke, they just asked for a ashtray.

I remember when Star Wars wasn't shit.

Fun fact:

Star Wars was considered a minor league, distant-second-choice by Hollywood actors the year it was made. One that they merely settled for. The hot title movie they wanted to be in that summer was Smokey and the Bandit 2.


Fun fact #2:

Lucas traded (in effect) most of his director's salary for Star Wars for the movie's merchandising rights. $350K for several billion dollars, as it turned out.

There was a smoking area at highschools

Not when I was in high school.
But my boarding school was in a rural area, so hundreds of acres to get lost in. And providing you don't set fire accidentally to the bush, your chances of getting caught was zip !

By the time my younger brother started in the same school, they had put put in a smoking room for the senior students
