This batch was supposed to be an easy one, but noo, two rims had to be completely reshaped... Reshaping any part of a pipe is always nerve-wracking.

What is the green leather wrap on that pipe in the upper left hand of the picture? Did it come with the pipe? I make something similar for my pipes out of black heavy stock paper, to protect my rubber stems against light.

That's the right Idea, i am just experimenting. It's lamb leather for me😁
After a certain amount of pipes in the collection it becomes such a chore to keep the stems shiny

Much nicer than my paper tubes! They really work to keep the vulcanite from tarnishing, by the way!
Oh yes definitely! The slow down the oxidation immensely especially if it's a tight fit. It's pretty hard to find the right leather, but the last few turned out great - I just needed some premium soft leather, one size down and it's a perfect fit... Zero light goes in and air leaks are also reduced

Thank you , but please look it up i had to describe the same thing like 5 times already just in the last month. There are also full restoration threads i posted in pipes repair. I am sorry but it's getting quite repetitive🙏
